Name that boat ...........

Some comments on the dinghy for what its worth. I hope I havent given you the wrong impression - any problems that I've outlined have turned out to be quite minor.

I can see why you like the Lomac - similar layout to the WB but I have a few of comments that still support the case for WB.

WB pros

The WB tubes extend a long way aft thus supporting the engine and also making it less likely for the prop end of the tilted engine bash into your brand new boat when lifting it aboard. I think that on the Lomac, the engine would stick out a long way.

The WB is made from an indestructable (my words) plastic material and is much softer to any bumps.

There seems to be more space inside the WB - the console is offset giving a useful seat opposite. Much more storage for dry clothes etc.

Performance - The WB perfornmance is tried and tested. Just a quick squirt on the throttle and she pops comfortably onto the plane.

Cons against WB

It is a little floppy - but as with all RIBs a little extra pump stiffens it up. I may be being a little unfair with the floppyness because I have mainly made that judgement when its been on a road trailer that was meant for a snall sailing dinghy with all the supports in the wrong places. Actually on the boat crane, its fine.

Delivery - the situation must have chenges since buying ours
Yep - I went for Hypalon and waited for Barrus to get one in with their next main delivery - I dont think there were any surcharges. Not sure what the PVC ones are like but there's a guy in our new marina with a WB exactly the same as mine but in PVC (fitted with a 20hp Yam though) - he's very happy with his as well.

Just for the record - here's a pic of the WB again - shows the size of the huge aft tube extensions and the extra storage space.

In this one you can just see the bend in the tubes due to the incorrect trailer supports.

And one on the crane - no bending at all - even with the big engine.

From what I can see (and having had one for a season now) I still think the WB has the edge - If I had the choice - I'd buy the WB.

BTW - I'm not frightened of admitting when I make a mistake - In deed, at first, I thought I'd got it very wrong with this little boat but now I think its great. I certainly didnt feel like this with our old JetRib.

Thanks mike for all that info. Interesting the the WB has grown on you since your few initial doubts. You're not helping me decide though! Looking at your pics i agree the WB has the edge /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Better seating, and loads of bow room becuase of the pram bow. And the steering wheel set up is a bit nicer looking.

OK I'll give it one more shot on the phone trying to get a WB (the supplying dealer in Essex said Barrus said the price is list for the PVC, plus £2000 extra for hypalon and one-off shipping, ex VAT I think). But there's another outfit i can try.

BTW I cant have the Yam 40 becuase they dont do short shaft power trim any more. It has to be the 30. So I've pretty much decided on the Honda becuase it's lighter. I think the Yam has the edge on quality but I prefer to save the weight. You're splitting hairs anyway over quality once you're looking at Yam Merc Honda etc stuff. And who cares anyway - if they really fall apart after a few years you drive down to the supermarket and get another

Thanks again for the info. I really do want to put this one to bed. It's more hassle than the mothership. BTW I ordered a spreadsheet of Raymarine gear yesterday so I've got a week's work soon fitting it all!

Re: AB and Carib

Ooh thanks. Jeeze, i never knew there were so many makes. That AB looks the biz. Also (other manufs take note) it's a brilliant website cos includes CAD drawings and chock dimensions

Alas the lightweight one (still 160kg) 11VST has a too tall driving console for me, and the top of range one 11DLX is fab but 200kg which is too heavy imho.

The Caribe also looks the biz, but 161kg for the nice DL11 and again a too-tall console. And a shoite website!http://www.caribenautica.com/dl_line.htm

Thanks though!

and not found the carib (or is that a beer? do i mean caribe?)
...
the AB ... can't buyem here, afaik

[/ QUOTE ]Do you mean this Caribe?
Good point re.AB also - iirc, when Selva started offering packages actually bought the inflatables from them, which would explain why they're not directly marketed this side of the pond. Not sure if that's still the case, though.

Edit: whoops, beated by jfm on the Caribe thing!
