I think its something totally different, this is more a cruiser for 2 or a day boat then a Sport Crusicer like the SC 35, the styling is also definitly different although botb yachts are quite minimal styled

Actually, although stylistically a little challanged I think it is a great concept for a med boat, acres pf space on deck, easy access for'd, and ickle cabin if you need to overnight. Needs more work but good try.

I note they haven't quite got the IPS trim right, still rather nose up, should ride a lot flatter than that.
 
Yep, but if you want the ultimate in Med day boating and overnighting you want one of these MD 51

Absolutely gorgeous boat, seen it now in the flesh and looks even better, really nicely put together.

Course someone will now pan it cus it is just sheer indulgence and expense for the hell of it, what a way to arrive though :-)
 
I'm not usually keen on sheer indulgence and "money no object" boats, but even in that respect, the Maxi Dolphin wouldn't be on top of my list for sure.
Just listen at the engines at approximately one third of this video, and I'm sure you'll see what I mean...
 
At the present probably only about 60% of builders and then it has been a steep learning curve.

As you know you can't just plonk em in to any hull, has to be designed as an IPS boat from the start, deadrsie at the last 1/3 of the hull is critical and more often than not you need to introduce a kink into the chines to give extra lift at the stern as you loose some of the dynamic lift with a flatter transom.

You can see here on an ABS 52 the slight downward crank on the outboard chines that assist with the trim.

Problem is many builders have identified this through trial and error but still haven't quite got it right so you still need to fiddle with the trims tabs all the time to keep her level, in one case of a well known (and award winning /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) Sports Cruiser they have over cooked the cranck in the last 1/4 so for a 14 ton SC with IPS 600's they have lost nearly all of the top speed so max'd out she only gets about 31 knts which is poor performance for IPS 600's in a 14 ton SC and means the savings for IPS fuel burn are all but lost.
 
I know of a few builders who did not get it quite right as some skippers told me, some of them also very well known

the XSR 48 is based on the P1 2004 or 05 champion KeraKoll designed by Fabio Buzzi
that is a great boat, although to much spartan for my taste, it has also a bit to much the horse effect a partiuclar element of all Buzzi boats, even the catamarans he did
but the seaworthiness of that boat is impressive
I think Kerakoll went on close to win the Round Britain, this year
 
Mmmm.... Call me cynical, but the kink into the chines sounds like a patch introduced after the first sea trials.
Surely easier than modifying the deadrise throughout the whole hull length, which would be the proper solution to such problem (possibly together with a reviewed weight distribution, if feasible).
 
mmmm, thats nice, very restricted in what you can do with it though, I guess it is a blast around type of thing and then come home again.

For me (I am biased of course) this would be my flight of fancy, amazing piece of kit and with the bigger MAN's reached near 55 knts, not as fast maybe but for a 55 footer with three cabins not bad and the up wind ride is hugely impressive, leaves everything else for dead.

If only it were that simple, the deadrise at the last 30% or so has to be fairly fixed and within smallish % otherwise handling becomes an issue so one has to look at other elements to produce the right balance of natural trim to assisted trim and performance. First to hold hand up and say the first couple built (56's) were a steep learning curve and basically 'pants' so they got binned but that was three years ago, its a different world now.
 
the Sogica is a nice machine
but with it you enter Pershing, Rizzardi etc territory
all go at 40 knots plus and all are heavy boats

my dream is a Magnum 53 Maltese or an Itama 54, lol but then I dream of a boat every day and I think Nautical is not far away from me

Take your point but the Sogica is also heavy at just over 30 tons and to me is better screwed together just doesn't have the brand name but I actually prefer that, if I am spending that sort of dosh I want to be exclusive and have something very few people have.
