Naked Germans

What a thoroughly pleasant chap you are Lakey. Let's hope you never have self esteem or depression issues, although perhaps that's what drives these kinds of post? There are several organisations that can help you get back on track if you need them, Mind.org.uk sane.org.uk and rethink.org are just a few.

As someone who is still overweight and has been even more overweight - definitely fat by just about anyone's definition - I applaud Lakey's attitude. It's my body and my life - self-esteem issues and depression issues are the cause of being overweight in some cases no doubt, but being fat is a symptom not a disease. In mycase it was/is caused by a lifetime of bad habits and, in my younger days, ignorance. Self esteem issues are not something most people would associate with me unless it's that I have far too high an opinion of myself...

Lusty is well-known for championing the underdog and supporting the oppressed.
Perhaps he also has issues which drive him in that direction.

Although I would never suggest that he seeks help, as he did for me. Still the caring soul that he is.

well, can't believe the response..........!!!

When I started this original thread it was a bit tongue in cheek. I hoped it would result in some humorous responses. There were a few (especially the Michael MacIntyre video...... thank you for that), but sadly only a few.

Without getting homophobic or too racial, here are a couple of observations:

Firstly, someone asked how I know they are German. Easy really, they are all flying German (or pseudo German i.e. Austrian) flags.

Secondly someone said it's the same all over mainland Europe. That is patently not true. In fact it is rubbish! While there are some nudist places (yes, even in England), it is definitely not 'ALL OVER MAINLAND EUROPE'.

Finally, while I fully support these peoples right to take their clothes off in designated nudist areas where they are less likely to offend other people, why do they have to do it in beautiful anchorages and then bend down to expose their least attractive aspect while adjusting their ropes. If they did it in Portsmouth Harbour they would be arrested. I don't think that makes the English prudish in any way.......just civilised.

Nobody on this thread has explained why Germans in particular seem to want to do it. Having said that, it doesn't happen everywhere. We have spent a couple of nights recently in marinas, moored up alongside some really nice German families. Fortunately they haven't exposed themselves to us or their children. Strange they don't do it in marinas or Kurfürstendamm.

Quite right, Wolfgang, not many German nudists up in Kiel or the Baltic last year:D

Strange; there was at least one nudist beach in that area well-known to the British Army crews sailing past fifteen years ago :D

I think the reason Germans are more likely to be comfortably undressed in hot weather is because they seem to be a sensible and pragmatic people not given to fussing about stupid stuff. And while they do have a greater tendency to regulation than us, it's generally for a solid practical reason rather than random media hysteria du jour. That's my impression from living there for a year, and living with visiting Germans here, anyway.

I might be rather surprised to bump into a fat naked man (of any nationality) in a village street or a supermarket, but another anchored boat is enough separation for my comfort zone. Believe it or not, I've noticed people without clothes on British boats in the Solent on more than one occasion too. My reaction is mostly one of mild amusement and a kind of "good on yer" attitude.

Didn't get a chance to check the beaches orf the Kieler Bucht, with SWMBO i/c and the need to get up to Gotland, and then back home!
Sooner them than I in our Solent climate, Pete, although the last 2 weeks or so might see more of it;)
Personally, the risk of skin cancer keeps me in hat, t-shirt, shorts and sandals, as a minimum.
Anyway, working on the boat in this heat in just PPE would've looked a bit funny; hat, mask, kneepads and disposable gloves- and I'd have got terrible sunburn in all sorts of awkward/unusual places:redface-new:

Cannot get to sleep tonight, too warm

The English are indeed civilised, which is why being naked in Portsmouth harbour wouldn't lead to an arrest. As I said earlier, it's not against the law to be naked in the UK, only for lewd behaviour which the law doesn't count naked for.

Yes, there certainly are a lot of people who are helped by an attitude like Lakey's. Unfortunately there is also the minority who tend to commit suicide, which is why it's better not to go about shouting that sort of thing.

..

I'll apologize in advance that I'm an American engaging in this debate on a British forum. Conservatives in the United States who profess a love of personal liberty are completely unable to deal with the concept of allowing people to make their own choices regarding what to wear (or not wear) on a beach.

Interloper..
Please do not apologise for taking part in the debate from over the pond. I always find it interesting to hear how people from other countries view things. Indeed I always read everything that SeadogUSA says simply to understand an American perspective

It's a slippery slope. Even wearing a Speedo will get you arrested in deepest darkest Arkansas.

Man's tiny swimsuit lands him in hot water

CADDO VALLEY, Ark. (AP) — A man's skimpy swimsuit was too much — or too little — for Taco Bell workers.

Employees at Taco Bell called police Sunday when the man walked into the restaurant wearing only a tiny black Speedo swimsuit and a cut-off T-shirt during the Labor Day weekend.

Caddo Valley Police Chief Hiram Latin said his attire, or lack thereof, was a little too revealing.

"He was inappropriately dressed for a restaurant," Latin said. He said the man had left his clothes at a lake.

The man faces a $750 fine and possible jail time if convicted of indecent exposure.

According to Arkansas law, a person can be charged with indecent exposure if "he knows his conduct is likely to cause affront or alarm."

Police ticketed the man and took photos of him in the Speedo, for use in court.

I sail alone these days but even when with a significant other clothes seem unnecessary in a warm Med. climate and I/we have frequently been au naturel when at sea. Once many years ago I and the girlfriend of the time (Swiss, not German) were saying that the conditions would be ideal to get some photos of the boat under sail, which are rarely available of one's own boat.

She was an enthusiastic photographer and with her advanced SLR the obvious one to climb into the dinghy while I gilled around on various points of sail, leaving her further away with every tack. Suddenly I noticed she was frantically waving and pointing at an approaching yacht under power ... it was then that I realised that she was starkers and that the yacht was changing course to pass close to her, now sitting down as demurely as possible holding the camera such that very little was revealed to the all-male Austrian yacht, from which a barrage of cheers and whistles was emanating.

Of course I was blamed, my excuse for leaving it so long was that she showed less sitting in the dinghy than climbing aboard, cut no ice at all. Short rations for while.

You forgot the three rules of SWMBO's;
1-Say 'Yes, Dear'.
2-Nod yer head when doing No1 to show message recd.
3-if it goes wrong, it's your fault/idea.

I hope she kept her boots on in the dinghy:D

Typical Austrians, no idea of how to react politely to a naked lady in a tender in the middle of a sea- probably looked round for the beach full of Fat Oldsters;)
