I remember many years ago being told by my boss who had discovered this phenomenon on his sailing holiday, when the German men also had the charming habit of standing akimbo with hands on hips, that they do it "to keep the flies off their sandwiches".

Being a trusting soul I have ever since accepted it as fact :)

Twenty-ish years ago, NW Corfu, on the beach. Four young German ladies who obviously stopped off at the island of Lesbos en route, arrive about 100 yards from us and strip off to lie down to sun bathe.

Local elderly Corfiot dressed in his black suit and wooly jumper underneath walks past with his dog, muttering his disdain at the display of nudity in public. Carries on along to end of beach and turns round.

Dog, king of the mangy mongrels, now speeds up as he turns for home but gets a whiff of something unusual as he nears the Germans. Starts to break into a trot as he follows his nose. SWMBO and I start whispering, "Go on my son, go on!"

By now, Dog is galloping for all he's worth and is locked-on like an infra red missile. Straight in between the legs of the nearest German he goes! Shrieks all round, drowning out some British laughter/

I've never seen Sapphic levitation before! Got to 3 feet off the ground she did, with Dog's nose still buried in the target!

Elderly Corfiot had to sit on a nearby rock, as he couldn't walk and laugh at the same time!

My other half has lived and worked in Berlin for many years, she would like to know where there are nude parks! In Her opinion your statement is not true.

In West Berlin around 1989 (just before the wall came down) nudity was common in many parts of the Tiergarten. It was even well defined which areas were for straights and which for gays. Likewise in the Englisher Garten, Munchen. Sad if things have changed.

All still well on Studland Beach, Dorset :D

Ah, but there is a difference between moral outrage and aesthetic disgust!

Mike.

Aesthetic disgust is in the eye of the beholder - Lakey wants to lock up naked men because he doesn't like looking at naked men (or perhaps he prefers them in a cage?). Given that he's perfectly happy to see naked women that would be sexism. I'm not best pleased when I see fat ugly people naked either, but perhaps part of the reason they are fat is low self esteem from this kind of thing.

>Can anyone explain why there are so many of them?

It's one of their favourite holiday destination, Majorca is another, Croatia is fairly quick to drive to. I remember one Croatian restaurant where we were the only Brits and the rest were German. I got really fed up in restaurants because I had fair hair (at the time) and blue eyes and the waiters always addressed me in German although most speak English.

Anyone who is fat or wrinkly or male should be locked up for not wearing clothes. It's natural law.

Not necessarily. Mrs pvb and I are currently on hols in Vera Playa, Spain's unique huge naturist resort. There are Germans, certainly. There are fat and wrinkly people. And there are males (about 50% of visitors, strangely). And there are also hundreds and hundreds of the most beautiful people imaginable. So don't knock naturism too readily!
