I was taught a lot of sailing on yachts with crew where that kind of thing was avoided by simply removing the handle when not in use. It's ingrained and I've been happy to pass that on to many others.

As you do so much of Billy no mates sailing, most of that probably doesn't matter......your boat!!

1. Fair enough. But it depends on the situation I suppose. Yesterday I was out for 3.5 hours and I tacked once. But I did have to adjust the sheets several times.

Very much so. As is everything to do with sailing safety. It's been the same in every job I've ever had, training to make operations on difficult platforms are carried out safely and efficiently. No regrets.
