Soon as I asked for a plate of chips (in my best French) the waiter instantly switched to English.....anyone who wants chips with everything can only be English

Find that slightly annoying as it’s normally a contest who thinks they are speaking a foreign language better than the foreigner.I now immediately switch to English as a goodwill token but sometimes it leads to confusion as in this case ASpaniard has even worse vocabulary than me…if you see what I mean
