Actually, I didn't read it in depth, so I hope I'm right. But that's what JumbleDuck is doing right now - while I earn a living ;) ...

Just scanning it, it seems to be more about MARINE rather than MARINA Planning. As far as I know, developement of amarina needs Planning Permission, as well as MMO permission, which usually includes restrictions on residential use a float.

It's about time the forum police closed down this thread. Its degenerated into rudeness and insults which is a country mile away from the reader to reader helpful advice which I for one have benefited over the years. Shame on you! (you know who you (plural) are).

Well said. It now has nothing at all to do with boats and seems to be the preserve of a few keyboard warriors who have little else to do than reflect on how brilliant life was in the good old days and how terrible anyone under 40 seems to be. I've been really resisting the urge to post, in the hope that the thread might just die, but no, the same Victor Meldrew types just seem to be perpetuating this thread with oh so highly amusing "bumps".

Mods, please, just kill this thread. Or move it to the lounge as that is a far better place for people to rant away leaving the rest of us to talk about boats, the purpose of this sub-forum. As things stand the thread has clearly run it's course and is detracting from what is an otherwise extremely useful internet resource.

Clearly Elizmor isn't going to be launched anytime soon, Ellie won't be back anytime soon, people who did have an interest in the boat now can't be bothered to wade through pages of Meldrew-isms, so can we please just get rid. And in the meantime, have some "digital messaging" of your own.

The thread was started as part of a digital marketing strategy, delivering us to advertisers in exchange for valuables. That strategy is as open for discussion as the boat and the launch. As I have written before, I am sure that if Eleanor were to give us an update and, with luck, good news, she would be warmly received.

But otherwise, to requote Bret Easton Ellis

And when someone is criticised for their content, they seem to collapse, or the person criticising them is called a hater, a contrarian, a troll.

If it bothers you so much, don't open it. After all the thread is only one line in a list of many. Resist the urge to double click.

...seems to be the preserve of a few keyboard warriors who have little else to do than reflect on how brilliant life was in the good old days and how terrible anyone under 40 seems to be...

At the merest suspicion of insult or sarcasm certain delicate types summon the angels of natural justice to strike down their foes in a blaze of sanctimonious glory. It's a simple weapon and has the advantage of delivering its users unscathed from logic.

But it doesn’t provide any guidance as to the appropriate response of a bunch of like-minded folk who have been tricked, tricked into believing that a thread which masqueraded as being about a wonderful old boat, was in reality only about marketing and profit.

I've had a quick look and can't see anything there to say that residential use doesn't need planning permission. Perhaps I've missed it, of course, but there was a lot of discussion about residential moorings on canals on the Liveaboard forum which suggested that PP is necessary there.

I can understand inland marinas, but areas of coast that beyond the intertidal zone...?!

I read somewhere that the council were evicting liveaboards in Brighton marina in 2013 after they found out about them when someone tried to claim housing benefit. For the life of me i cannot find the link now though.:ambivalence:

3. Houseboats are dodgy for marinas as they can create residential "rights" for the occupier. I'll take a bet that the OP has been asked to stop using the vessel as a houseboat ...as any sane marina would do when the winds of litigation start to blow.
I would be fascinated to see if anyone has ever established any residential rights for a houseboat in a marina, yet alone in a boatyard.

All I know about liveaboards and rights is, there have been liveaboards on houseboats - an assortment of old MGB's, an MTB and lots of others inc once graceful schooners - along the shore at Bembridge IOW for decades, but they are always under pressure from some bright councillor to shift ( which means destruction basically ) and it doesn't strike me as the hassle - free existence one might initially envisage.

As for Brighton marina, it was well known for a very long time around here as friendly to liveaboards as long as one wasn't too obvious, some good ( and much classier than me ! ) friends of mine were there for 7 years before setting off for blue water; so again some berk of a politician has presumably done their best to ruin a fair few lives.

So having just read some of this thread (admittedly not all) it looks to me like the summary is:

  • Respected forumite buys boat
  • Respected forumite makes blog about boat and agrees to write articles about the launch and journey for boating mag
  • Respected forumite gets sponsorship
  • Forum doesn't think she should have sponsors, despite the sponsors, forum owners and respected forumite being happy with the situation
  • Respected forumite finds it more costly to launch than first envisaged
  • Forum decides marina is therefore evil
  • Marina explains why they are not evil
  • Respected forumite continues trying to launch
  • Forum concludes (over many, many pointless posts) that the respected forumite should be evicted not only from her new boat but also from her old boat and marina

What on earth is wrong with this forum?
