Av wgt of European car = 1.2 tons (Wiki). 55 cars x 1.2 = 66 tons. 12000 ton crane to lift that!!!!!!

Jumbleduck has already said the the 12,000 was a typo, and should have been 1,200. As the main beams for the bridge will be at quite a distance from the crane, I can well believe that to lift 66 tonnes to the required radius, will require a very large crane.

I'm beginning to get the impression that the enthusiasm of owning a new boat has now worn off and the Ellie is having to get to grips with the reality of it all. The absence of any updates makes me think that "digital marketing strategy" ain't much help when nearly 40 tons need to be shifted and I do wonder if it is just another dream gone sour. Time will tell but, for the moment at least, Ellie isn't telling.

I suspect she'd probably got tanked off with people feeling the need to criticise her lack of experience in heavy lifting, her lack of being able to predict the future, her motivations for the project, her finances, her hair, her career, the business arrangements that she has with her sponsors, and is probably just getting on with it and keeping it to herself. Or she may be writing about it on a forum where people have more of an interest in boats than here and there are no comments about setting fire to her boat/blowing it up/scrounging etc etc.

I must admit if the thread about my boat restoration had gone quite so off the rails as this one, I'd have walked away from it a while ago and just left the keyboard warriors to it.

It's intriguing though, that she hasn't updated her blog since 16 Jan, and hasn't posted on her Facebook page since 16 Jan. Both of these are fairly key to her sponsorship quest, so I'd have expected a constant stream of little updates (especially as she's supposedly well-versed in digital marketing). As I say, intriguing.

Ellie is right to stay away from this thread until there is some definite movement towards a successful launch. No News is No News.

What on earth do you expect her to write about if the stalemate persists?

Hasn't even removed the

Under any other circumstances I would agree with that, but in this case she is aiming to use the internet and publicity as a money spinner. Once you have opened that particular pandora's box then you have to keep going; you can't switch it on and off at will as the sponsors want to see something for their money.

This could turn out to be a great story of "how I overcame adversity" but, at the moment, it isn't being handled very well. Ironically, somebody who claims to be internet savvy should also have realised that it can be a hard taskmaster too and how you handle criticism is important. Ducking down out of sight isn't a realistic option..

It's been handled very well if the objective is to write the story you suggest and publish it in print. Maybe you will have to buy an issue of PBO to read about it.

Go back to Ellie's VERY FIRST POST on page one and there is the latest EDIT . This boat owner is asking for some Practical Help.
I am sure we have all been there with a bust engine, boat, problem, seeking advice.

This forum is just fantastic when people decide to roll their sleeves up and think positively

It's outrageous, isn't it, that the people she is selling to manufacturers as a marketing audience should have any opinion on what she writes?

I doubt that the earnings from a PBO article are going to be anywhere near enough to get this boat launched.

That's not the point, really. The PBO article may only make her a couple of hundred quid directly, but the stuff she gets from mentions of <omitted> marine electronics, <omitted> fenders and <omitted> anchors is a lot more valuable.

There was an expert*on digital and social media marketing on the radio on Saturday and they stated that "You have to update your blog/ website etc every day, seven days a week or it will not work, people get bored very quickly when nothing is updated day to day and move on to a blog/ website that is." The young German lady Nike, from "White Spot Pirates" seems to have got it right having just taken delivery of a new set of sails C/O Lee sails.

Perhaps that's the hope here. See also: Streisand effect
