I've got kind of the opposite problem.

Sucks in fine. Mostly pumps out fine. Always fine to sea, but ocassionally to tank, it goes really really stiff on the downwards push and the bowl won't empty. If I jiggle the valve turning between holding tank and sea, then there's whoosh of air and trickling sound, then I turn the handle back to tank and then it's fine.

Air block to holding tank?

We have only been using the tank for the past 2 weeks (long story, but it was out of use for years, but had been left full - so it's taken us several weeks of regular treatments, flushing, emptying to get it reasonable).

Holding tank vent restriction, would happen with any head.....

Only a brief galnce through all the other comments, but one thing does spring to mind....

ARE THE HEADS ON THE WINTER MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE??? if not, why not.... There are more compalints and queries about heads, from normally educated people, who would spend ££££'s on the engines and sails, but never bother with an essential like a good quality head..

Just re-read you original post and if you mean jiggling the y-valve diverter works then that valve may be causing a restriction. Our renowned Professor of Poop matters who rebuilt the systems on our trawler when we lived on that and now also on our sailboat turned his nose well up at the cheap Y-valves originally installed and fitted better quality ones 'to ensure smoother transit', he also replaced all hoses and straightened out the pipe runs to remove any pre-installed kinky bends and low points along the way for the same reason as well as fitting a larger bore vent pipe and filter. On the new sailboat for example he has fitted a special PVC pipe bend to replace a section of hose where the original hose passed through a bulkhead and turned sharply through 90 degs as it did so. much neater and less restrictive. He also replaced the OEM anti-syphon valves with better quality ones for the same reason, Now this guy is anal :) in the extreme and a perfectionist, but he is well known throughout Florida as THE man for all matters poop.
