More 'what boat to buy questions' Moody S31, First 31.7 etc.

I had a 31.7 for a few years, bought an ex racer from Ireland with room full of sails for club racing and cruising with partner.
Converted genoa to furler and installed lazy jacks for easy main drop, quite happy sailing two up if not trying too hard and you do get there quicker, 1st reef at 20 kts, 2nd at 25 and traveller down and she sails quite happily, plenty of 30-35kt experiences and week long cruises.
As for the fuel tank, I carried two 5 gallon drums and a 'jiggler' siphon for long trips but at only about 3 Lph, economical, only moved on in dotage to bigger vessel at partners behest and to suit my temporarily expanded wallet!

Frankly, no; but on your prompting I had a look, interesting boat but it would worry me that the only one I could find for sale had been fitted with a bowthruster? Sort of contradicts the brokers spiel. All the 30 year old teak would be a worry too, I might have enjoyed a project once but in my mid seventies can not afford to give up too much precious sailing time.
I do appreciate suggestions which take my search in less obvious directions, thanks.

Absolutely no need for a bow thruster. Mine hasn't got teak decking, I wouldn't have bothered either if it had.

Glad you had a look at least :)

Happy hunting

No Wully, foolishly, I sold mine last year, that one was, I think, based on Loch Creran, I think it came over from Lossiemouth before that.

Quality of build Moody 1, Sigma=1, Jenneau 2, Dufour=2, First 31.7 3. 3 also for Bavaria. I don't know about W, Storm/Tempest I've never heard of it.

That's a very precise scale; as a matter of interest is it evidence or opinion based?

Showing your ignorance once again. Westerly was the biggest UK builder for many years and the Storm and Tempest were both successful models in their later years.

Thanks to all who contributed information, most of it very useful. I am now refining my shortlist, the S31 is still there but the 31.7 has almost gone though I might go and take a good look at one before eliminating it.
There are so many folk currently trying to sell boats in the range I am looking for that chances of subsequent resale may have to figure higher in the checklist.
