Has anyone any experience with Monterey. Been to see this boat and as a first boat seems pretty good. Grateful for all comments.

Monterey came out top in last months MBM 21 ft sportsboat review. Dont know if the one you mention is the current model? Monterey have been available over here for a while, used to be thru Gibbs, but suspect it was tough being along side Regal. Thought they were pretty fair, middle of the market boat. Only slight question I d have is whether the name is popular enough here to make them easy to sell second hand, compared to some of the other names. On the other hand, if its the boat that you like, enjoy it ! Seems well enough respected name over in USA. Smaller , private company .

Are you looking new or secondhand? I looked at the Monterey's and found them appealing to the eye, they look well made, but the extra's were all on top.

If you are in the market for a new cuddy boat have a look at the Larson 220 Cabrio, it is a cuddy type boat with loads of room inside and well finished. I don't know the cost of the Monterey but the 220 basic price is reduced by 3k until the end of this month from £30,225 to £27,225 with a 5.0GL engine. With the necessary extra's it adds another min £2k ish, then if you want an EFI engine and duo prop another £3k (£1,050 extra for SS props), then about £3,500 for a trailer (it weighs 1,900kg), and the whole lot gets pretty expensive especially if you don't buy it before the end of the month as that is another £3k, I make that £35,725 with the discount or £38,725 after (excl SS props).

Just for your info.

We have been quoted 27k new for the 218lsc with a Mercruiser Diesel 1.7. In this price are full covers, pull up cleats and etc

Seemed a reasonable price?

You haven't mentioned trailer. The 220's 'extra's' that I quoted were for the galley pack (cooker, sink, coolbox), the porta loo and snap in carpets. Anyway with the diesel option for that price it seems good, what is it for the non diesel option? I haven't had the price for the diesel on the 220 but I am sure it would be a few grand more as they offer the volvo 31. As I said it may be worth a peep at the 220, it is cavernous, and you have nothing to lose. Glastron are bringing out a new boat called the 219, it starts production next month, there are no photo's of it yet, it will replace their 209 and 229 range. Don't know the costings, but it would be slightly cheaper than the Larson and Monterey. But I guess you get what you pay for, those nice little extra's if quality, cost money and someone has to pay for it. Another very important thing is to ensure you will get the back up from the dealer, that could be worth 10% of the cost of the boat. A bad dealer could give you a nightmare and end up with you having to teach him one almighty big lesson /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
