For multiple reasons I'm looking at adding wind to our power setup and investigating the options everything looks a bit...dated. Marlec don't support Lithium without an RS232 cable and their "app" supports Windows XP. In 2025. No mention of how to change settings or a manual, or even downloads for the windows app which suggests they aren't really supporting anything. This is mirrored in the lack of firmware updates for absolutely anything. None of this gives me confidence in buying from them.
Silentwind looks a little better, they have a basic phone app to change settings and at least have slightly more comprehensive manuals, although their website is super janky and the mounting kit is in a section labeled "upsell".

Does anyone make anything modern and/or well supported in this space? I'm sure the hardware is fine, but no way am I getting a laptop and serial cable out to check settings.

Silent wind have an enviable reputation (and they would be my choice, check what Sea Change is going to do). I think Sea Change inherited his Silent Wind but had a thread be moaning the absence of lithium compatibility. I don't agree with the negativity against wind gens - as long as you have already maximised your solar display. They work 24/7 and tend to work more when the weather is grotty (during which periods solar can be pitiful).

I'm not sure why you need to worry about settings. Don't you instal, input settings (at your leisure and comfort) then forget.

If you’ve never had a setting change unexpectedly you’ve not been paying attention. I check my Victron now and then just to be sure, and especially after power downs and firmware updates. If the settings change there’s a very expensive lump of lithium that needs replacing! The Victron makes this easy with good modern apps and connectivity, no way am I going back to dongles and I certainly trust nobody who’s talking Windows XP when Windows 10 is end of life.

I agree wind has a place and the 24x7 thing is attractive to me. We have no space for more solar, no money for a massive arch, but we do like using Starlink at night for TV 😊
