I've never had a motor boater be rude distainful or superior to me. I've never been rude distainful or superior to mobo owners. I don't know anyone who has, presuming we exclude pwc. I think posters who write about nasty experiences at the hands of mobos/raggies are trolling. Anyone else share this experience?

I never had a mobo owner be disrespectable or anything of the kind. What happens sometimes is that they cause inconvenience for going too fast ,too close but that's mainly due to lack of experience rather than bad manners.

[/ QUOTE ] whilst not yourself I have experienced the worst form of this at a bar last year. Pushing me (gently) aside a raggie, from this forum no less!) announced that he would buy the drinks as I would need every penny for my fuel to get home.

Such experiences are rare as hens teeth for most of us. I can only recall one incident in many years where I was given a one finger salute by a pink rotund clad in bling and little else. As posted elsewhere, I have a friend who seems to claim a bad experience every time he goes out, which makes me firmly of the opinion that there's something seriously wrong with him!

Cheers to all Mobos!

No!

i had some mates on board a boat once and a rassy 53 turned up and started making a mess of mooring up We offered help but he was loath to take it. One of my guests/crew called over to him. "I bought that boat new! You're called Simon aren't you? You bought it two weeks ago, yes? ok, stay there, i'm come on board and bring it in!"

i don't think i've ever seen anyone quite so deflated . Heehee!

I hope this isn't a reference to me, Tom!

I have never had a bad experience with a mobo .. its only their rude arrogant drivers who are the problem .. but theuy're not half as bad as the saily ones who are only outdone in the crassness stakes by seaside landladies with pink slippers, bald heads and brisly moustaches. I always tell them to fuc&nbspk off before they get a chance to offend me .. get the retaliation in first !

Re: MoBo owners are indeed lovely.

At least the one I rammed was. Perfectly charming.

I find that if one can drag oneself out of the Solent/Poole environs these incidents are remarkably rare. I did once have a mobo come close to me 20 miles south of Salcombe. He photographed my boat, waved and off he went.

As a big lad I have often been asked to man the winch to take a raggy up his mast to fix something.
I have seen them run aground when venturing off a marked channel but I don’t go on past, I stick my nose in and pull them off.

After all we are all boaters. I love Ragbaggers, there I`ve said it.

Though I would draw the line at having one as a son-in-law.

Erm thats very nice of you .. does it discourage them from running aground again? Or is your area full of little yachts aground awaiting your arrival?

You're a mere waif by comparison. This guys trim tabs couldn't even begin to compensate. It was just inside the entrance to Chi and he was doing about 20 knots with the HM launch coming his way. I made a slow down signal and pointed to the HM launch to which he returned the salute.

I like to think it was a misunderstanding and that he probably thought I was an arrogant raggie, which of course I am.

An acqauintance of mine had a similar experience. He noticed a large mobo with its anchor coming adrift at the entrane to Cowes so he pointed and screamed "anchor" to alert the mobo. The mobo driver misinterpeted this information, lost the plot , and revved up to ram, just at that the anchor also lost its final tenuous perch and fell. Being a largish delta it of course took firm hold immediately and almost caused the stnkie to pitchpole as it sploshed to an abrupt halt. My acquaintance then noticed the craft was still in gear and made rapid vertical motions with his hand to tell the guy to put it into neutral .. alas this also seemed to be misinterpreted so he departed the scene laughing at life's little ironies

This looks like another thread with MOBO s trying to justify their tidal waves and the excesive and unneccassary use of fosile fules, while causing noise pollution and damage to the marine enviroment?

Isent it?

Jet ski love in

I have always found MoBo pilots to be courteous, even when I inadvertantly tried to ram one chap while attempting to sail in a force 0.1 the year before last, but the cheeriest of the bunch must surely be those chaps on their jet-skis. Especially the one that laid out my anchor for me while I was aground in the Bembridge channel a few years ago (before they moved the buoys back to match the course of the channel.) I know a few people get a bit hot under the collar about their antics, but live and let live, I say.

I find MoBo owners fine, and have gone aboard for drinks on several occasions. They've helped me a couple of times, e.g. going up the mast. Sometimes they come a bit close while going too fast, due to lack of experience. But that's generally the younger ones with RIBs and the like rather than motor yachts. The larger yachts are better in anchorages too.

I've had more problems with Raggies, especially the racing fraternity.

There, does that help? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
