Med boaters - will you get to your boat this year?

To tell the truth the passing wake was making life difficult. So we headed to Beaulieu Bay, but the skies are turning very dark so decided to head back to port. Aircon on and about to see what is chilled in the fridge. I suspect rosé.

We are back in port thankful the suns gone in .Awaiting a new cover guy to template the side covers .Busy has to do Sundays to keep up .
This towed up near us .They have been away in it 10 days .No French curtesy flag .

24 degree deadrise on out drives .

Just had a bit of an adventure…I have told the dog many times to be careful when using the passerelle…not to be casual or fast or change directions mid stream…well this morning he decided to go ashore and then changed his mind…out of the corner of my eye I saw his body contort then lose footing and splash!! He started to swim aimlessly and at one point swam out of sight under the swim platform but he listened to his dad’s voice and I got a hold of his scruff and pulled him back on the boat….where, soaking wet he jumped on to my new electric couch that he is only allowed on when he’s dry!
On a serious note, a dog in the water in a port won’t find a place to get out, they need their back legs on something solid which they won’t find and eventually will drown from exhaustion…so, today, have a sit down with your dog and explain, again, safety onboard ??

true Bouba, and the problem is that from their perspective in the water in a marina they can only see the dock and swim towards that which is pointless if alone.
Ours in anchorages when encouraged (ie we are already in the water) will jump in from the bathing platform and swim 50-100m ashore, explore, do her thing and when bored (and if we are onboard and she can see us) will swim back. Need to be alert and pick her up from the bathing platform. Being 7kg makes things easy. Need to design a grippy sloping floating thing for her to walk back on the platform. The other annoying thing is that looks like when a dog is in the water s/he wont bark so if you miss an event you wont know they are in trouble :-(

V,

Buts there’s no football shirted tattooed , larger swilling ( at the U.K. departure airport bar at 7 am ) Brits . :)
Just Italians and few N Europeans.

Sorry to disappoint you Chris .
No problem Porto, you didn’t disappoint me but Italy has a little bit, food is cheap and generally very good……..but there only so much pizza and pasta you can eat?
The food in France is much more varied but it’s the boring coast line that really surprised me, n o little bays to pull into and the scenery is mostly rock face down to the sea, we got just past Le Spezia and decided for my wife’s birthday it would be nice to eat on the beach in a good restaurant…….5 hours later we were having a G & T on the boat anchored just off Paloma plage, in the last 9 days we’ve only stayed over night in port once and trying to get the Italians to answer vhf just doesn’t happen !

Wrong part of Italy. You should go South to Amalfi. Totally different. Personally I find Italian food wipes out French food for not only its variety of cuisine but also it’s variety of cost and quality at every price point. But then again food is an individual choice so different strokes for different folks. I mean Bouba loves burgers, what more to say!!!!

It’s better for knowing. We initially used a guide book Rod Heikels .
We are here ( Liguria) due to the proximity to CH .No other reason .Have a dog to factor in travel .
Our little stretch from Alassio to Cap Noli had plenty of shelter and two islands .It’s essentially a strip of N S coast in what appears Monaco to Genoa a W to E drag .

We enjoyed the bay around Portofino , could spend a few days there plenty of shelter on the N end .
We also for the first time did a couple of days inside the bay of La Spezia .Again two islands and plenty of shelter and quaint fishing village ports .

Also we have used the marina Genoa airport pick up service. You stay a night or perch on the visitors berth and they send a chauffeur to collect your arrival passinger(s) ….It’s about 30 miles away so an hr for me .Tiny airport aside the marina .
The Merc drops them off at your Passerelle.

I agree with Hooligan re the food .It’s counter intuitive that French can be bettered largely because Brits are spoon fed via tv sheds loads of Fr cooking tv programs and we have been brain washed .Me inc .

The price point in the greater context of running a mobo , etc does not matter per se .How ever it does feel kinda nice that stuff is cheap .I mean we had 2 large glasses of Prosecco + nibbles for €8 at a bar in a sq in town ….people watching .
That’s not the reason we are here , but it’s a very nice add on .In CH you are looking at CHF 38 for the same …£35/37 quid !

Once the mutts passed we will drift S and if air travel hassle free ness and cheapness returns may even wind up in Corfu.
Or Croatia .If air travel remains a fag , or gets cost prohibitive ( fuel + staff ) we will stick to driving so .

Elba s worth a visit in the future .It’s geography is reminiscent of a snow flake …..bays and shelter on every surface .

Ps I used marina e Mail to book and they replied with VHF station and time they expected me .Thought it worked well the reservation side .
