Measuring Cocks

Hi all, any advice on how best to measure through hulls and seacocks in situ? I need to buy the parts before lift out just in case there’s a shortage again but can’t see anything obvious marking on them and obviously can’t measure internal diameter while afloat. I’m not comfortable removing the hoses while afloat, hence replacing them at lift out

Using ordinary calipers (digital if you must) measure the OD of the threaded part of the through hull/skin fitting.
Look up the BSP size that corresponds to that measurement in your copy of Zeus or on line thread tables.
That's the size you will need

Also measure the OD of the hose tail to determine the size of the hose tail you will need.

The inlet for the loo will be 3/4" BSP, the outlet 1 1/2" BSP. Engine intake almost certainly 3/4" BSP. sink and shower outlets 3/4" BSP (or maybe 1/2" for sink - easy to tell the difference). DZR will be physically direct replacement but TruDesign although same diameter and thread sizes have physically different size bodies which may cause space problems.

Buy complete sets - skin fittings, valve and hose tail, then just cut off the outer flange and pull the comlete assembly from onside the boat. Their is no shortage of DZR at the moment but don't know about TruDesign

Thanks chaps. Yes it’ll all be TruDesign, no point messing about with metal ones in this day and age. They’ve been hard to get for a while so just making sure I have them ahead of time as we’ll lift out March or April. Also an element of heading off inflation, the way things are going the money will be worthless this time next year and the cocks may cost thousands ?

I did not expect Jeanneau to be different from Beneteau which, in my experience, have been 1 1/4" BSP seacock with a 1 1/2" OD hose tail for the heads waste.

Which backs up a female friend of mine who said that they are often smaller than originally claimed.
My german ones are of the larger variety. ? But one should always check before the job is attempted.

It's no use putting a small cock in a big hole and often a struggle putting a large cock in a small hole.

I think that was a rough conversion of OD to BSP. I'd disregard it and measure properly.

On leaving the boat today swmbo commented on how stiff the heads cock was ........to operate. Was about to reply the more she agitated it , it would eventually lose its stiffness . However she's a sharp minded lass , and would have hit me with a .....oohhhh it come off in my hand.

Maybe for smaller sizes if you measure the OD and subtract 1/4"
