Meadows Power Engine.

Lagonda and Invicta.

Yes, indeed the meadows 4 banger was used in LeaF's and the six bangers in Lagonda and Invicta to name but a few.

The marinised 6's were a venture between Hubert Scott-Paine's British Power Boat Company and Henry Meadows.

"Power" was the trademark of the British power boat co, they marinised Meadows engines.
The 6cyl was the type 100 4 1/2 ltr. 15 years ago i aquired three of them and as marine engines they were unsaleable. I broke them up for spares as the base unit is used in Frazer nash & Lagonda cars, the blocks, heads, cranks rods & pistons etc were worth very good money, i still have a set of Amal side draught carbs & oil coolers fo one of them.

That jogged the grey cells. I had a long conversation with a guy who raced Leaf's a few years ago. Problem was he was a recovering alcy, so detail was sketchy.

Indeed they marinised Perkins too, and were behind the marinisation of the Napier Lion and the RR Merlin, and the license built Packard version of the Merlin, busy chap Scott Paine.

Its as great pity that you still dont have those 3 engines, there are at least 3 British Power Boat Company boats without engines.

Have you still got those meadows marinising parts?
I need some spares.
Do you have any pictures of the engines?
I am keen to understand where the oil cooler was used and the set up on them.
Thanks
Andy

I dont know if its the same engine, but the scammel recovery vehicle used in the army had a meadows petrol engine, might have been bigger than 4 1/2 litres. (I know they were underpowered) But had solex sidedraft carbs, if I remember correctly. Might be a source. I think the civilian scammel "knockers" were diesel.

I still have some bits for them including oil cooler (fits to rear of block & head above gearbox) bronze head to block water transfer castings, two sets of Amal sidedraft carbs & vacumn shift assembly. You have PM re my contact details.

Andy

Hope you and family are well.

Research into my 20ft boat, comparison of the installation, part numbers on some parts I had and anecdotal info from the seller has lead me to believe that she was fitted with a Chrysler Ace of 70hp.

So any 'Power' parts that turn up are of no use to me. Fill your boots!

Sea Arrow still for sale, asking price dropping each week and haggling is encouraged.

Ben
