Has anyone dealt with this company? We're planning to re power our boat and are now considering doing it ourselves. They were incorporated last year, good reviews (although that could be his family and friends). The price below includes part ex of your old engine, anything is acceptable as long as it's post 1975 which to be honest will save me the aggro of getting rid of a smokey old Volvo 2003.

One firm I've contacted to complete the whole job want £9k plus vat for the supply of the D1.30 engine, before you add labour cost, ancillaries, storage, lifting etc at their yard, I'd be lucky to escape the right side of £15k.

NEW Volvo Penta D1-30 27hp Marine Diesel Engine & Gearbox Package - Marine Engines Direct

With the Volvo repower kit for engine mounts I don't reckon it's beyond my skillset.

In addition to the "why Volvo" question, I replaced my 2003 with a Beta 30 rather than a Volvo D1 30 for several reasons. Firstly I was fed up with the ridiculous price of Volvo spares. Secondly the 2003 had let me down and brought my season to a premature end. But mainly because I realised that the oil and fuel filter were mounted on the opposite side from the ones on the 2003 and would be accessible only with difficulty. When this was pointed out to the Volvo dealer, the response was on the lines of "well you'll not be wanting to do your own servicing, and we can do it for you." No doubt at a price!

So you'd be paying not only for someone else to do the basic service, but the additional time it would take them while they struggled to reach the poorly accessible parts.

Sounds like you made a good choice in switching to Beta.

A simple case of moving the engine into the cabin for a basic service....
