Out of interest, is putting your (new) MMSI as easy as entering the MMSI the first time?

I'm just checking that I don't have to send the HP33A back to the manufacturer as I'm probably buying one second hand and don't want to send it back to China for a reset.

Anyone else know for sure?.

Notes: 1. When the MMSI is “---------”, which means an invalid MMSI, the transponder operates as just an AIS receiver.
2. If the MMSI code has already been set, you cannot change again.
3. If you enter a code that starts with “0” or “00,” it won’t be accepted and it will load the previous MMSI code.

From the HP33A manual. So once the mmsi is entered you can't change it.

Edit Ah Jumble Duck beat me to it.

OK, it may only apply to 33a‘s of a certain vintage but doing a factory reset it cleared all the data from my set, including the MMSI. it then let me enter my MMSI without any trouble. I found this out by doing a google search and someone on a US based forum had posted this as a work round: I already had the set, so gave it a go and it worked. I have no idea of the vintage of my set ( bought second hand via this forum) and have no idea of newer versions don’t have this work round. A comment on wherever it was I found out about the dodge was that it would only work twice before refusing to do it again.
The factory reset menu path is on page 9-4 of the manual.

Mine came new with an mms no from a Chinese ship! Bit odd bit it looked new.
Did a factory reset and entered my mmsi with no issues.
Screen is pretty good for the size and gives you lots of useful info.
Have mine linked to Navionics via a Yakker NMEA to WiFi bridge

I also re-entered my mmsi after a factory reset, couldn’t work out why it wasn’t transmitting until I realised the mmsi had been deleted. If I was buying second hand I’d want to check before paying money...
