However, it is clear that there are 2 sides on this thread & to continue is just creating ill feeling. Something that I do not really wish on forumites. The forum has too many good points for that. BUT I do want to make my feeling clear on the matter. Whether you agree or not is another matter
hear hear to that. (y)

I think its an interesting discussion partic about transmission and risk. For me, the key thing is the person to person transmission risk. EG my youngest daughter has been extremely careful as she is classed as vulnerable due to existing health conditions, however she works as a vet and has all the PPE etc. She finally caught covid last week (week before she was due to be vaccinated) and it turns out that a night nurse at the practise had caught it and managed to pass it on to 4 people in the practice. She is recovering OK now after a couple of nasty days.

If the government had not been so keen to protect banks and property owners then we might all be in a rather better position when lockdown ends.
What are you thinking of? Business loan guarantee schemes? Rate relief. ?
Hmmm --------should not help banks to extend loans to struggling businesses should they & no way should the government help property owners ---disgusting!!
What have the Romans done for us?

It was perfectly within their power to put a freeze on rents, mortgages and interest while closing most of the country. Instead they chose to ensure that everyone continued to pay out money and instead use taxpayer cash to partly fund businesses and people, indirectly funding the banks and property market. As a result many have gone bankrupt anyway and many more are on the brink. No matter though, new businesses will pop up after lockdown which will start to rent those properties so all will be well in the upper ranks. Or we could turn the empty properties into countless new flats in town centres for massive profit.

Would hope that Marina's are subject to our Govt rules not their own; so why take any notice of their oft petty actions ! after all Marina's appear to act as if they are after taking /making money any which way or that , so guess that COVID is or has become an additional income thread for them ?

in the first lockdown Mdl elected themselves as a defacto police force, and locked gates, erected barriers etc. It was difficult not to take notice when you had to climb over gates to get to your boat.

Subsequently they have concentrated in putting safety measures in place but left the interpretation of the law to individuals.

Note they had to give partial refunds only in the first lockdown.

I had always thought that "guidance" was for folk who are unable to understand and apply common sense. The objective of the so called "rules" are to avoid contact with others and possible increase the rate of infection.
Let us hope that the SW will not be swamped with folk later this year, - "just send the money please!!". ??

Where else do you think 8 million staycationers will head too in the summer
I imagine a lot will not have formal holidays.
Personally I intend to spend some time staying with friends and relatives in 3 or 4 different counties, and I'm expecting several groups of friends and relatives to come and visit us for a few days at a time. We will be visiting relatively local stuff.
Most years we would have several short stays in hotels or B&B around the UK or Europe. I can't see there being time for that this year, and we don't need the uncertainty of planning or booking stuff which may not happen or might not be much fun if it does.

This is not over by a long chalk, it will still be months before the UK is fully vaccinated, the rest of the world is far behind.
Case numbers are still high in much of Europe. If things open up here around Easter, we could likely have another wave of cases and another tightening of restrictions before Summer.

Oh you harbinger of doom

And then there will be those with kids stuck in the house just itching to get away, read the press and you'll see reports of significant levels of holiday bookings in places like Cornwall. As soon as were allowed it will be just like last year, crowds at durdle door and every other tourist location.

Last year this died a death in the summer and rebounded in the winter, just like lots of people thought it would. Hopefully it will be similar this year, it may be even better given that already a significant proportion of the UK population has been vaccinated.

Why the obsession with full vaccination. Every vaccination brings down R. That’s all in needs. Get on with life now!

Why this obsession with bringing a pandemic to an end? There has been an airliner crashing over the UK with 350 people on board every day for the last six months, but I'm catching a flight tomorrow,.

I have seen this on several social media sites.

Can anybody explain what an "indoor boat" is? I am sure they don't mean something we can play with in the bath.

At a guess, outdoor boat is a dinghy, indoor boat has a lid on, which would make sense in terms of not mixing people in confined spaces, which is what the scientific advice is.

Well I’ve been keeping my head down in general but I was desperate to get down to the boat on Sunday because its due to come out soon and I’m having the mast down.

However I’m stuffed now because we’ve got 10 days in the cooler. Wifey had to go in for a small procedure on Thursday and THE NURSE who treated her has tested positive but our “world leading” track and trace didn’t contact us until MONDAY EVENING!

Obviously I didn’t know on Sunday and I did press the button that opens the gate, I did hold on to the rail down to the pontoons and I did go for the odd phish.

I‘m feeling guilty now because I’ve started to feel off colour this afternoon but I’ve not got a burning head or anything.

We’ll see how it pans out but I can’t waste 10 days, that’s for sure.

Then why did they not state that!

I spent the last few years involved with writing engineering standards putting them in a language was treated very seriously.
