Hello .. Good evening

I hope all is well with you
I need a little help regarding the Mariner 16 GT boat
my father bought the boat a few years ago now he would like to legalize it in portugal
but they are demanding a document with the characteristics of the boat
or a CE certificate With maximum capacity, maximum engine power and model name
They also talked about a plate with these characteristics but I restored the boat from scratch and I didn't see that
Can someone help me with this document or certificate?
I can post some photos of the restored boat
thank you for your time
thanks
lengths

Welcome to the forum.

The advice I have been given by people in the boating business here regarding Portugese boat registration is quite simply - DON'T. What you are experiencing is just the start of Portuguese maritime officialdom.

However, given the size of your boat it may be difficult to keep it registered with a different flag. It may be worth looking to see if there are any age exemptions that you can claim, for example the boat may have been built before CE certification was a requirement as it probably dates from the 70's.

Yes, that boat was built long before the RCD (which is the basis for a CE mark) was even thought of. The CE mark was introduced as part of a common standard in the EU single market in 1997 and some countries (including Portugal) use it as a basis for registering and licencing boats - it was never intended for that purpose!

As your boat was built probably in the 1970s or 80s it would not meet the post 1997 standards so effectively you cannot register it in Portugal as unlike most other EU states I do not think they have any exemptions for pre 1997 boats. You can always ask, but I suspect they are treating your boat as a "new" boat.

hello good evening, yes the certificate is not mandatory until the year 2000, but they are demanding a plate where it has the identification with the name of the maximum HP builder and maximum capacity of people and weight, I think that by then it would be mandatory to put these plates

That is the official CE plate and can only be issued by a certifying body after the boat has been assessed to meet the required standards. It comes with a Certificate of Conformity. You may be able to self certify in Category D. That is possible under the rules of the RCD, but you will have to find if there is a Certifying body in Portugal who will do this. However Cat D is only for use on inland waterways.

Older boats may have had a builder's plate, but would only show the builders name and possibly the town. Any other info was up to the builder. Sorry, but do not know exactly what the Mariner 16 would have.

Dad used to have one and i can not recall a builders plate at all.
There was a sticker from the broker that sold it to him.

We ran a 40 hp Johnson on the back. That was the heaviest we could lift on and off for storage/ theft protection.
It could take more easily a 50 and I think up to 85hp . I have NO PROOF what so ever of that its just a vague recollection of the discussions re what to put on it at the time.

Good luck with your quest.
