Does anyone have ex-perience of berthing in Palma, Majorca? My brother and I are looking to berth a yacht there for the summer and I know nothing about the area or facilities, other than it is supposed to be very good...

thanks

Deleted User on the mobo forum is based in Palma, you could try crossing to the dark side and posting there or, if you couldn't live with the shame, PM him.

Shhhhh you don't want to be saying things like that on here.

I'm not really allowed in here, I just pop in now and again when no-ones looking.

If you need to ask - then you it is probably not for you - it is the type of place that they collect and deliver your laundry from your berth and they have courtesy cars driven by east european beauties cruising around the marina to give you a lift to the facilities.
In short very expensive!
There is a town quay but security is very poor. Berthing in Majorca is generally expensive I found. More expensive than The Solent but they offer much better facilities.

<There is a town quay >
I think you will find that there is no mooring along the paseo any more. The whole length of it is now another marina.

There are many marinas in Palma and all are expensive. Quay 21 is advised in the RCC pilot to be cheaper but this is no longer the case. Club Nautico may be the least expensive but it may depend on length and it still won't be cheap.

El Arenal at the far end of Palma Bay is probably the cheapest in the area. We were quoted 800 Euros per month there, summer or winter, for 10.6 metres in 2005. Except they were full in summer!

Can Pastilla, right in line with Palma airport runway, used to be the cheapest (and noisiest) but it was full when I last asked.

Might be worth trying Andraixt. There were berths available in 2005 and there were some moorings that appeared to be vacant. The cost was still a lot though, 500 Euros p/m. At the other end of the island Pollensa almost always seems to have vacancies. Good bus service from Palma town and airport. Don't drink the water though - it was the worst in the Balearics.

Your answer was a little pompous, dont you think?

I just wanted to know if it was more or less expensive than alcudia, where I was paying €120 a night last summer for 57', JB was paying €90 for 48'

Perhaps, although it was not meant to be. I was trying to be "tongue in cheak" perhaps it was lost in the written word.

It is now three years since I was at Club de Mar and I as there every summer before that for 4 years. I also berthed from time to time in Alcudiamar I seem to remember that the berthing rates were similar. The shower facilities at Alcudia are better than Club de Mar but the general atmosphere and the pool facility if you have non sailors amongst you is excellent.

Please forgive my flippant attempt at satire earlier - it as not meant to insult. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sorry if I took it wrong! Theres naff all in alcudia, by way of pool etc. but the club in Pollensa was good, the pool etc, great, a little cheaper, not much, but you cant get a berth in august, because all the berths are reserved for club members. If I go to Mallorca this year, I would like to spend a few days in palma, will try to find out more.
