Oh for the taste of a real fresh tomato.
We live now a lot of the year in St John USVI and cannot for love nor money get good tomatoes here, when they come of the boat from the US they are hard and green inside.
We tried growing some(on Land) this past year with very limited success due to the heat and humidity.
When we lived in Malta the tomatoes that grew on Gozo where some of the tastiest we have ever had and grew practically all year.
Just wondering if anyone in Malta or Gozo would be kind enough to buy a pack of seeds and post to us in St John and we would cover costs.
Funny the little things you miss.

You have my sympathy!

We grew beefsteak tomatoes here, in Guatemala, with limited success, this season. http://gerryantics.blogspot.com/2008/11/harvest-time.html

What I learned was:

Roma or cherry tomatoes grow best in tropical climates
Grow them in the shade
Harvest just as they start to go yellow, this avoids splitting of the skins.

I managed some 25lbs of ripe fruit and they did taste good!

I know exactly what you mean ah the smell Im sure it cheers me up just smelling them
Had them in croatia all summer then came home and tried to replicate the atmosphere out on the bristol channel in the cold
I think thats when the depression kicked in oh along with the depressing news ccrunch this ccrunch that
My uk boating in winter is done
So may see you next winter in the virgin islands reckon on about $ 400 dollars a mth for mooring in the bvis how does the usvis compare

Regards
Mark

Many places in the BVI charge $25 a night for a mooring ball, with nearly all the old anchorages now mooring fields it is pretty hard but not impossible a anchor for free!. Ivans on Jost Van Dyke has a nice system, if you use his bar and restaurant then mooring is free. That said the holding in White Bay JVD is good and free.
The USVI - if you are in a National Park area there are many regs to follow some areas dont allow over night anchoring or mooring, if you are in an area with Bouys you must use them at $15 per night.
But many bays are free to stay in.
See you when you get here!

Anything Maltese is music to my ears!!!

Fruit, bread, I just can't get bread like it, I try to buy this Tiger bread from the supermarket, it's about as close as you can get but falls very short.

Milkshake. I don't do much naughty eating but the strawberry milkshake at McDonalds oh wow, they use some special cream to make that I'm sure.

Wish i was there now. And if i was i'd send you all the seeds you want!! Life this good has to be shared!

Sounds like you're sorted, so good luck with the harvest!

Kind regards,

Russ
