Lubricating cover zips

The ones I don't use much are getting stiff and I'm concerned I might do damage by using them (they are plastic). Any tips on how to lubricate without people getting messy when using them?

Zip lube

Go to the swindlery and buy some teflon zip lube, avail in aerosol or gel.

do ours every 6 months with a can of silicon spray from chandlers works fine cheaper than zip lube

i.e. Pledge works a treat

Assuming you can remove it from SWMBO's tight grip (or not)

...or take a hint from us scubadiving in dry suits and how we deal with zips immersed in salt water... .... beeswax...rub in on all sides.... seals, lubricates does not run off etc...

I use this - just take a candle along and rub it over the zip teeth.

Also works a treat on stiff press studs.

Best of all - costs virtually nothing and lasts all season.

Don't use aerosol products because the overspray shows on the fabric. I use vaseline, cheap and easy to apply and if you get some on your hands just rub it in. Also use on your seat cover zips.

Thanks for the further replies; I opted for teflon gel and it is working fine.

I support Vaseline which also works well on cover poppers and is VERY flexible for other uses ;-)
