Losing one\'s cherry
I find myself in the strange position of wishing to buy my FIRST boat. Strange because I can not see why I should wish to spend upto £20k for a piece of chipped, scratched, and rather dull 30 year old plastic decorated with equally well maintained chrome, sagging canvas, frayed and torn seats, mouldy window frames, a multitude of missing bits, beds shaped like boomerangs, and propulsion systems that, when they work, just turn and giggle if the word economy used. (and I thought my 2.8 audi was juicy)
Unfortunately, when it comes to large, and expensive, floating bits of (please delete as appropriate) plastic/wood/steel/contrete I find myself firmly placed in tyre kickers legue. It is to this end that I turn to you. My fellow rich and/or stupid watery veined freaks (I fall firmly into the latter by the way).
After having gone through, and seen off, the "It has to be as fast as hell and as trendy as creme anglaise" phase I have narrowed my shortlist to something equally at home in river and sea. A Coronet 32 oceanfarer.
Question time (yes I know it took a while, but we're there now)
1. Can anyone out there in the shadowy world of the wetsuit worrier give any reason why this would not make a good choice for my first boat.
2. Are there any points in particular that I should look out for when viewing.
3. Is there anyone in the bedfordshire region who has experience of this craft. Someone I can ask of "what does that do" while pointing a finger.
4. What is the cost of a river license.
5. How easy are these boats to works on for DIY servicing.
6. Anything else you can think of.
