I'm really happy with the free-standing induction hobs we have, our oven is dead though. I would like to install a gas oven only and stand the induction hobs on the top. It looks like the Thetford duplex oven might do the trick, does anyone have any experience with these? Is there a gimbal kit available? Any other products out there?

We had the same thought. I was thinking also, would it be possible to fit a double induction hob on top of existing gas oven after removing the three gas rings? I don't seem to be able to find a double induction hob that is compact enough. We already place the single induction hob on top of the gas rings at anchor but I can't do this at sea

Thetford's stuff is OK, It's designed and fitted in caravans so if you want it to gimbal, you'll have to make your own. I have fitted one of their cookers plus an oven into a Grand Banks. Had to be in two parts as it wouldn't go through the wheelhouse door as a single unit.

You need the Vango sizzle, comes as a double and single unit.

Fair enough. It works for me, but it is slower than a domestic one to boil water.
Our boat is 24v. We have a 200A BMS so can run loads only limited by the capacity of thr inverter at 3000w. The inverter will take 6000w peak but we don't need that. We generally run no more than about 75A so keep the stress off the 280A (at 24v) battery. 1800w on the induction hob is no problem

Had a look. They are only 800w apparently. Our single induction hob is 2000w. We run it at 1800w to boil the kettle and do a stir fry. I don't think 800w will hack it
Whilst its our first season with the Vango Double, the 800w for each hob hasn't proven to be a problem. Previously when we used the single we tended to turn it down to 600-800w anyway our you risked incinerating the contents. We boil water in a small Russel Hobbs kettle.

Are you running 120v appliances?

Pete

For stir fry, you need lots of watts. Commercial Chinese restaurants run 60kw per gas ring!! I find my 3kw double gas hob at home only just good enough for stir fry. More kW would be better. The 2000w induction hob is better than the 3kw gas hob for heat as lots of the gas hob heat goes around the pan and up the extract.

I can see 'capturing the flame' a bit tricky with an induction hob. Agee though that they are more efficient hence why I think we end up turning the hob down. I think gas is something like 45% and induction 80% at transferring heat to the pan.

Domestic gas hobs in Hong Kong are FAR more powerful than those we use!

Thanks for this. If I buy the oven, what is the top like? Can I just plonk my induction rings on the top, or will I need to build a box for it? Does the top get hot?

RTFM!
IRRC they are designed to be built in and will require ventilation top and bottom as well as round the back.
