I am keen to see a Channel Island 22...I like the look of the boat and the spec' also what people have written about them, but not seen one yet. I am thinking of buying one. My search locally arround where I live has not been sucessful. I think the ones that I remember have flown home for the winter!
I live in Falmouth Cornwall and would very much like to hear from anyone who could point me in the direction of one that I may see not too far away? Thanks, Chris.

Excellent choice, had one for 9 years, but sorry, can't help with pointing you to where you might see one. I'd just have a wander around a local boatyard/marina, or go to the CIs, there quite a few there.

There was a tidy one for sale in exmouth, in the little drying creek behind camperdown terrace. Don't know if it's still for sale but a google search would be my 1st place to look..

It's a long way to go to look at a CI22 but if you look to buy one thre are loads in Guernsey and Jersey.

See New Horizon Yacht Brokers in Guernsey and CI Boat sales in Jersey, both on Internet.

Try and find one with a 140 hp.

Thanks Bandit. I will try them. I was keen to get one with the turbo. I have had a sailing boat for 31 years with the Ford 2712e but naturally asperated and had no trouble wiyh it ! Chris.

Some info and experiences with a Channel Island 22
Single engine. Big 'box' right in the middle of the wheelhouse, restricts movement and makes two forward facing seats difficult
Although a folding pilot seat is possible.
I had my single engine model's box insulated to the best degree I could and had the seat/box upholstered with a 'hump' forward which enabled swmbo to use it as a seat
Being of short stature She could perch on said upholstery and have some forward vision
Single engine of 140 turbo (Mermaid) gave 19 kts WOT but even with the best sound proofing I could source at 19kts conversation was limited!
However at 12/14 cruising speed conversation was normal. Which in a way was quite good cos If I didn't want to hear swmbo I just went flat out!!!
Twin engine layout gives the facility for two forward facing seats
However not as much Oomph
Omph, I found handy when a following or quatering sea made handling a bit twitchy.
Or bashing into the 8 kt tidal flows we have here abouts, like when I got the tides wrong!
Personally I would go for the bigger engine single models
Incidently the first half a dozen or so built had no wheelhouse and were an open launch for all intense and purposes
The earlier wheelhouse models had there 'wheelhouse' bolted on and later they were moulded
Brilliant sea boats for their size, not expensive to run with either engine configuration
I renewed the 3 coir rope fender on mine to keep it looking 'Trad' as it were, this rope is now hard to find and it was a difficult job to affix. Most by now have had rubber 'D' fendering fitted but bear this in mind if you see one with a rope about the gunnel cos by now it will be knackered!
Cosmetically beware the headlining in the forecabin plus other areas as this can be a tricky job to replace
The fuel tank on mine was situated aft behind the seating area and I had to remove it to clean. There was no drain system fitted and 'sludge' had collected in the 'trap'!
Yep go for the Turbo
My old one is for sale but I would not recommend Her. The Owner has let Her go and She is in a bad way. Which is a shame as I rebuilt Her from Stem to Stern
There are a few for sale on the tinternet, I looked the other day
Just google channel island 22 for sale
I would think a good one would be about 12 K these days
Any questions on said craft, post on here or PM me
Cheers
K

Thanks Kawaski for the detailed reply, A big help. I used to sail in the Menai Straights and still am in touch with a friend from l'pool who still keeps his boat at Port Denorwic. Will PM if I need help. Chris.

I can categorically say that it's been sold. Belonged to my co owner of Calypso, our Aquastar 27!

Interesting Landyduck, as you may have read I restored one some years ago
The next owner let Her rot for years
The current owners have restored Her again and she sits proudly on a mooring in Menai Bridge
Where you going to launch yours?
