I bought them too. I've used them over the galley sink (which suffer from an overhanging bulkhead) and they give a good bright, rather cold light. That's OK because the area needs a bit more daylight. I've run them under engine (14v2) and an enthusiastic charger/power supply (15v and no I still haven't sorted that problem) and they seem OK.

Threaded eight or ten of the blocks in an old 30cm flourescent fitting to make an engine compartment inspection 'wand' (£15 0n eBay). Works fine.

I'll also be using them for the darker recesses of the lockers, esp under the sinks (although it might be better not to see what's in there).

Good value and v. versatile.

I was thinking of buying these:

The idea is to make a cheap anchor light. The only reason that I have not done so as yet is because I am somewhat attached to my Chinese made hurricane lamp.
I have just bought those and fitted bits in various places on the boat, Cockpit locker, around engine bay and behind switch panel. Work very well so far, cut in multiples of 3, feed and return to one end only, polarity sensitive, works one way but doesn't other but also doesn't blow if wired incorrectly.
