I should welcome any information on the sailing abilities of the above and how does the 28 differ. I hope someone out there will respond!

Has always looked a bit of a bathtub to me, sorry...
They always have said about a yacht that, 'if she looks right, then she probably is right',
..and the LM sure looks a tad funny to me.

A very good friend bought one and was tremendously disappointed. It didn't sail well and didn't motor well either as the engine is on the small side.

LM 27 seems to rely heavily on the name!
To me they are overpriced and over-rated!
The LM 28 costs even more!
Why don't you look for something like a Steadfast 30 or its earlier incarnation the Master 30. Masses of accommodation, sails as well as motors, and does both well, 30ft and similar price.
Others to look at are Dartsailer 27, Winga 87, Fjord 33, Southerly 28, Cox 27 MS. THe classifieds in PBO will bring up others as well.
If you go for something less well known you are not paying for just the name!!!
