red is a deep one, yellows are though the gelcoat mainly, others are just cosmetic. something I came across.

Seen that happen before and watched the boat do a 180 very quickly.

Safety catches on anchors if they aint stowed aboard!

Freind of mine had it happen to him on his Birchwood in the Bristol channel a couple of years ago. Danforth anchor stored against the bow in a vertical tube held up only on the winch. Winch slackened just enough to let the anchor down about 18 inches, which then proceeded to bash against the bow with every wave. First he knew about it was when he started taking on water. Made a fair sized hole in the bow and had to be "supervised" home. He now has a chunky nut and bolt through the chain to prevent it happening again. As we have very similar boats with the same anchor arrangement, acting on his advice, I now keep my chain shackled to the cleat on the winch..just in case.

Steve.

Sorrento Lady was on the next pontoon to us in Swansea last summer, and got to know Bob and Sarah quite well, which is where he told me his anchor horror story.
We are there all year round. Perhaps the South Wales contingent on the forum could get together at some point this season....
