okay, i've just replaced the boats lifejackets, a set of 5. As i don't often have a full crew on board not gone for anything expensive or cheap just middle of the road.

As I wear my own most weekend I'm looking for a more expensive one and not sure what to go for. I know i don't want it to fold in to 3 like some of the cheaper ones do, hence would prefer the curved horse shoe style that goes round the neck just for comfort really.

Anybody got any recommendations.

TIA

However often the lifejackets get worn, only buy the very best, Baltic for me or Crewsaver.

After all no one knows when or who on board might need to use them.

yes I totally agree. i've just bought 5 XM 150N automatic Quickfit with crutch straps, there can't be much wrong with these for the crew, they have never moaned in the past and they aint cheap ! they meet BS and SOLAS standards.

Personally I don't like the fit, dare I say of a cheaper jacket, So hence the question and why I'm looking to spend a bit more money.

You'll have to get some XM labels to stick on your jacket then, otherwise the crew might just get suspicious!

Good lifejackets here. Good people to deal with and provide next day delivery.
I have the Hammar type, in black with a permanently attached crotch strap. These are much more comfortable than the folded types. The mechanism is on the left so avoids hitting me in the tender area resulting fron hiatus hernia.
The blue/yellow one now listed is very similar to mine but with a separate crotch strap.

EDIT. I have just spotted that they have the last few of the black ones on sale here.

too right, Spray hoods and lites and crotch straps are essential......

The other thing to think about is the 150n, is that really enough bouancy? If you weigh in at maybe 15-16 stone, plus your waterproofs, it aint gonna be enough.....

Take the Sea Survival course,, good fun and hugely educating!!

Another vote for Ocean Safety, who really know their stuff and give excellent advice. Don't cut corners - the first time you use your lifejacket in anger may also be the last if cost is the only determinant. In my view, spray hood, light and good crotch straps are all essential. The advice to do the Sea Survival course is excellent - this is an outstandingly good course in preparing you for the worst.
