For further input, maybe contact You Tuber Patrick Laine as I believe he's based there.

Thanks Wonky. I like Patrick’s films - engaging, modest and (seemingly) honest. I think I’ve got enough now to be very excited about the prospect - and I want to save something to discover for myself!

The unknowable unknown, that applies to any move to France, is how we will find not being able to grab the odd unplanned night or two onboard, and having to be a lot more disciplined about any work that needs doing. But we expect this will probably be a precursor to us moving to France permanently, so they might be temporary concerns anyway (as could be VAT and Schengen - yay!).

Ha - useful, but I am thinking more a stroll to the market/restaurants/bars (and a stagger back if I get carried away!).

Not ruling them out entirely, but would be a different sailing lifestyle - probably then opt for dry berthing so would lose the winter “cottage” option, which is attractive if we are in a town. Been offered dry or mixed options at Folleux and La Roche-Bernard but think we will try La Rochelle first - assuming the berth actually materialises.
If you end up at La Roche Bernard, you can keep an eye on my boat for me ;-)
