LED Tri-colour

I splashed out 300 odd quid on a lopo light combined anchor/tricolour. Not sure how they got the cost up to that much but it is a beautifully designed unit, maybe r&d and testing to confirm col reg approval added to the cost . Waterproof and have seen it shining bright down to less than 11v. Harder to justify for a coastal boat but for a cruising liveaboard where either the light or the anchor is vital for the safety of the boat 24/7 than the cost is easier to swallow. And the massive power savings. Say 2a 12 hours a day for a 25w incandescant anchor/tri against 0.1a for an led = a saving of 8322Ah over a year. Ya pays yer money... :)

What is the port/starboard separation like? I saw one at METS and there seemed to be a huge overlap. If that is the case, how did they get it approved?

led masthead

What with the cost for a "sealed" fixture, it might be hard to justify for a combination light. We anchor a lot and fitted a single white LED to replace the 15 year old incandescent fixture. The new sealed unit has worked without a problem and most importantly has a significantly less drain on the battery. There are comparison tests showing the two systems side by side and what they look like after 8 or ten hours continuous use....I''ll go with an LED anchor light as I don't do much overnight sailing.

Just had a look, doesn´t look too bad. Seems to sort of fade from red to green over a few degrees, certainly less than the boat would yaw.

Have you given a thought to the NASA supernovas?

£50 odd quid each on ebay. I have them and apart from an early problem that was sorted out without any trouble by NASA they've both been fine.

Damn sight cheaper than the alternatives.....

I also use the supernova... sailed in last night in full darkness with a mast head like a qulity street tin on steroids... very good and commented on for visual sighting an brightness by the waiting committee observing from the bar and pier.
