Be aware that Le Treport is not allowing any boats in with a draught of more than 1 metre.

Explanation was given but my French was not up to understanding it!

Treport

That's a pain, I was planning on Dover, Eastbourne, Dieppe, Treport, Boulogne, Dover next week. There's nothing on the web (that I can find) about it. Are you sure?

Looks like I might have to change to Dover, Eastbourne, Fecamp, Valery en Caux, Dieppe, Boulogne, Dover... Trouble is the tide is pretty horrid for Dieppe->Boulogne (28/8/9)

There has always been a depth limitation here - when I visit with my 2m keel (last time 2008) there is the familiar sucking of teeth and careful instructions to park in the usual forward position - all others being too shallow at LW. When these few slots are taken, that presumably is it!

Not to knock the town - it tries - but there are better spots along that coast. If they won't dredge (all French enterprises have unlimited access to EU money - don't they) then they must be asleep....

Are you sure?/QUOTE]

Yes I am sure, we were refused entrance there yesterday as were 2 Dutch boats.

There is nothing that I could find in Pilots or almanacs which quoted depth restriction, hence my post!!

Treport - Mobo's only...

Just returned from my cruise along the Normandy coast. Terrific time. However, I can confirm the Le Treport is effectively closed to sailing boats for the forseeable future. Dieppe Marina has a notice (dated 7th May) to the effect that only boats that draw 1m are welcome. There's a very knowledgeable guy (Pascal I believe) who works at Dieppe marina and he explained that the silting has reached the point where you might get in HW+-1 but they have had problems and no longer wish to accept visiting sailing boats as a consequence :(
Basically, he said, it's mobos only...

Well, I wouldn't see that as a compromise... St Valery en Caux is absolutely lovely....

And Le Treport makes Ramsgate seem like the height of sophistication.

The harbourmaster at St Valery en Caux this year was extremely friendly, explaining that he felt he owed the British for having liberated them.

It was shut on the day we were there, sadly, but I've been there in the past. You get a feel for what it must have been like when you walk up to the memorial to the 51st Highland division on the cliffs to the east and look back over the town. There's a memorial to the French on the west side, but the views are less.

And it wasn't (a compromise that is). We had an absolutely fantastic time on the Normandy coast, only disrupted by getting stormbound at Dieppe for two days, which meant we eventually had to go to Dover directly from Dieppe (cracking sail though, completed in a little over 12 hours ...)
