Has anyone sailed along the west coast area of Sth Africa?

If so, could you give me any ideas of which month of the year is ideal for good brisk sailing, whale spotting etc along this coast

Also a good alamanac/ book to read beforehand as I am thinking of doing a 3 week trip down there later on this year

Any suggestions/comments welcomed
