y a new wick (they become stiff and refuse to feed after a while).

Cheers one and all. I do like the replica Davey mining lamps, so might get one of them instead.

I believe that's a model of lamp called the "gypsy moth". Not the best quality, but good enough; I had a slightly different model in the same range on Kindred Spirit. Don't know who makes them or whether spares are available, but they're fairly common so you have a reasonable chance.

I bought a few feuerhand lamps http://www.base-camp.co.uk/wick%20stoves%20lanterns%20&%20heaters/feurhand.htm and they are excellent. Well built, easy to operate, burn for about 16 hours from full and give off some warmth too, a couple hung up below can soon chase the chill away. I often hang one in the cockpit in the evening on the mooring and SWMBO says she likes the quality of light.
Cheers, Kev. I'll check them out. Can I borrow one?
I'm not convinced it's a gypsy moth lamp, I have 2 of them and although similar to Russells pic, they are definately not the same.
Actually, the one in the pic looks rather better quality than the Gypsy Moth design.
