My new boat has this lamp, but there are bits missing. Can anyone recognise the manufacture, and perhaps point me in the direction of spare parts?

Or should I chuck it away and get a new one?

I believe that's a model of lamp called the "gypsy moth". Not the best quality, but good enough; I had a slightly different model in the same range on Kindred Spirit. Don't know who makes them or whether spares are available, but they're fairly common so you have a reasonable chance.

It looks like all you're missing is the glass chimney and possibly a new wick (they become stiff and refuse to feed after a while). I was surprised to find a local old-style hardware store provided me with a wick and the glassware is available from the sources given by other posters.

So that's what causes it! I have in the past looked in vain for something wrong with the sprocket. Never occurred to me to think there was anything wrong with the wick.

I owe you a drink ...

Cheers one and all. I do like the replica Davey mining lamps, so might get one of them instead.

The chandlers "down the steps" in Falmouth had a box of different glasses when I was looking, a few years ago.

I would strongly recommend that you do not buy a replica Davey pattern lamp. There are always loads of originals available on E-bay and the quality is superb. Search for "Eccles lamp". They make for perfect anchor lights as well.

I'm not convinced it's a gypsy moth lamp, I have 2 of them and although similar to Russells pic, they are definately not the same. The fitting for the glass chimney is pretty different. Google images of gypsy moth lamps to see what I mean.

You may well be right, I was going by memory of the design but I suppose there could be several very similar types. Hardly matters since he seems to have decided to replace it :)
