Lalizas Life Raft

1. Describe what sailing you will do ...

Why ? The type of raft is not so much what you think is maybe suitable ... it has to suit and be according to what you intend ....

Are you sailing in well frequented waters where rescue is in minutes / hours or in less frequented waters where you could be a day or so ... or worse days !
How many people do you expect to be average on the boat ? raft should reflect that number - not maximum number your boat is built for.

Those are basic questions you should ask yourself.

Having seen your post I started to look for a price list of Lalizas rafts but am having difficulty.Where do you intend to buy it & may i ask where you found the price list please
I do note that they seem to be a Greek company, but made in Bulgaria. that is Ok except that manufacturers often change suppliers & when it comes to servicing it can be an issue getting spares, because the original subcontractor is no longer in contract. It can sometimes be a false economy

Lots of reviews of different rafts in the various sailing mags - I guess it depends on the sailing you do -for crossing channel a cheaper version from Seago has lasted us years but when the time comes to pension off if planning longer voyages I might be tempted to make a more serious investment . We don’t tend to carry ours when sailing in the Solent however so active usage is quite limited. I guess you might want to also consider if a valise or canister is preferred?

If I have it right---£ 700 for that LR
Does not seem worth it
when you can get
ADEC ISO 9650 Type 1 Group A 24 hour Liferafts from only £739.00
Don't forget that holdall LR's sometimes have to be serviced annually instead of every 3 years & that means a cannister one is cheaper

+1

Single tube, small ballast pockets and doesn't meet ISO 9650. More like a toy.

Once in a liferaft, the real enemy is hypothermia. I'd always want to be in a survival suit.
There are plenty of quality survival suits for £100 or less.... see eBay.

Ask yourself in what sort of conditions you are likely to be using it , if it's a calm day and your only concern is fire then no problem but if it is rough and blowing a hooligan?

The main thing I look for in a raft and this is after having been thrown into Plymouth Bay in March and boarded a life raft as part of Sea Survival ... we did it in the sea before H&SE took over and moved courses to swimming pools.

The inflatable floor .....

Our raft - the instructors forgot to put the bellows in the raft and we had a floor barely inflated .... all the shouts and hollering from us was ignored by instructors on the College Yacht - Tectona ... they said afterwards - that we just sounded same as other cadets subjected to this.
Myself and a couple of others suffered hypothermia in that raft and it took hours after 'rescue' before any of us felt ok again ... it would not have taken much longer for us to have died ...

The inflatable floor is a life saver for a wet and cold person ... as important as the cover itself ..

I am tentatively considering this lightweight raft for West Coast of Scotland use. Does the forum have any comments?
Lalizas Raft

It's a low-spec raft, and not inexpensive. I wouldn't be happy with it in the sub-tropical waters of the UK's East Coast, let alone in that perishing place called the West Coast of Scotland! Buy a real one.
