Excellent news. The Moray Firth has a big population of Bottlenose Dolphins, one of the best places to see them is Chanonry Point. Never been in to Nairn or Findhorn myself, look forward to the reports and the movie.

I agree, it's lovely. It's the wildlife that made it for us. We had gannets diving all around the boat at one point, and then once they'd gone, the dolphins came to play.

Flat water is not always the case though - in strong Easterlies, with an outgoing tide, waves heap up steeper and steeper as you get further into the Moray Firth.

Glad you have met our resident pod of dolphins. A regular sight. Out of 5 trips on the boat so far this year I've seen them 3 times.

So are you exploring the Cromarty Firth first then?

If you are at Cromarty now, has the ferry started running yet this year? or is it still parked on the beach next to the harbour?

ferry running - moored in the harbour

remendous rows in the harbour about who controlls it

growing yachties or old fishermen

most entertaining

Whats the plans for coming up the Moray coast then? Loads of nice wee harbours for you to stop at in short hops. Most have plenty of water. Weather is great today anyway.

Its Lifeboat day / Harbour day in Wick on this coming Saturday. Normally a decent turnout, with visiting yachts from all over. Loads of old historic boats to see, including the old Fifie drifter the Isabella Fortuna. (think its actually free berthing as well) Usually is....

Glad you made it to Cromarty.
I saw a single dolphin last week at the entrance to the Cally Canal.
It surfaced once - a few feet from me.
First dolphin I have seen in the Moray Firth. Yes odd.

I left Whitehills yesterday morning and there were loads playing around the boat. Got the camera out and thought I had good video of them, only to find 'Picture Error'. Inverness for a few days (work calls) and then off north. Quite expensive mooring here - almost south coast prices. Aberdeen cheapest so far (£23 for up to five days - bargain, if you are happy cleaning the boat afterwards and can make do with no facilities), Whitehills nicest (also next cheapest) and Port Edgar the sniffiest (wanted me to put two lorry batteries back on the boat, when I asked where I could leave them for recycling) but with great views of the bridges.

With 1.8m draft, the east coast is not the easiest area to potter about in. It looks as though only Helmsdale and Wick are available to me.
