Kill Scuttlebutt

If you don't like it you know what to do. Open your seacocks and sink without trace (I hope)

And who pulled your chain Pisky muppet?

YOU DID - EMMETT

[/ QUOTE ]

Has it not occurred to you that was exactly the intention? Bit slow down with in pasty country perhaps.

And if I were as unpleasant a fellow as you, I might wish that all YOUR leaks become big ones. But as I'm not I will merely say 'have a nice day'.

had you not posted anything it would have died its natural death, slipped away from page one and we could get back to answering or discussing all the posts and points you make on a regular basis.

But I fear, yet again, the room will get bitter and people will now post in order to wind you up, do you see.

Start a boat orientated thread!

What for?

This is what usually happens, only the special few are allowed to have opinions and when some of us others dare to speak out then out come the knives.

And what makes you think it is THEM doing the winding up?

Robin, 3 points

1) You state you are are nice person. IMHO you are not. In my world "nice people" do not launch personal assaults laced with abuse on people.

2) Posts like yours are sstrangling and killing this forum, everytime you launch into one of your periodic diatribes more people get fed up and the vicious circle starts again . So who killed Scuttlebutt ... you did! Cock Robin!

3)Why do'nt you ask Keith if you can have your own forum with posters and posts vetted by you as moderator. Kim used to be quite amenable to such requests.

Tell me what difference it makes?

There is no secret in the headers, they are easy to spot, if it says corner, ignore it.

How does it matter, no new posts for the day, or in your opinion, lots of rubbish posts, either way, there is still nothing for you to read.

If you want to talk about boats, start talking about boats, people will join in and talk to you, that is how forums work. But as the muppet pointed out, you seem happier to just bemoan the threads rather than actively start an interesting thread on a maritime theme.

Try it, what would YOU like to talk about today....

What IS the point of putting a post on SB if it will get quickly bounced to page two by rubbish.

[/ QUOTE ] Assuming of course that your own post wasn't rubbish. And you are assuming that if you don't approve of a post it must be rubbish.
But it doesn't always work like that. If you only want to read worthy posts of a serious and profound nature, what are you lurking around here for?

Robin\'s right

I feel sorry for the YBW people. They are trying to run a decent forum for all interested folks and even trying to cater for the "in crowd" as well. I've looked at this forum on and off for many years but its never been as boring and offputting as it seems to me just now. Reminds me of a lot of kids in a nursery making aimless noises for no better reason than making noises.

If the nursery school could be confined to the Lounge as was, presumably, intended, I imagine a lot more casual visitors might find something to interest them here be tempted to join in. As it is, it may be enthralling for the cognoscenti, but its damned boring for anyone else who may happen along.

Re: Robin\'s right

Ironic that you did choose to join in on a subject like this. The forums need new blood, new stories, new thoughts.

Rather than sitting on the sidelines like others and bemoaning those that do post and try to evoke discussion, why not try it for yourself, start a thread, introduce yourself.

I do not get this at all, it is very easy to start threads, if it interests you it will probably interest others, play devils advocate if you like, but please don't be the quiet one in the corner eavesdropping and hissing cos your bored.

Maybe you should look back and remind yourself of some of your comments about people like me who dared to question King Jimi's opinions. I didn't launch any kind of personal attack but I will respond to one, especially to really nasty ones like from down in the West Country.

The purpose of my original post was that fishy corner crap was indeed strangling and killing the forum. 'People' even other than me ARE getting fed up, but some people don't know when to tone it down a bit.

He created the Lounge just for the purpose of airing the kind of posts I'm talking about as I understood it that was to prevent SB from being cluttered. It seems that a few folks like to push things more and more and more to test the limits, like kids do with parents. What pray IS wrong with posting at least some of the frippery in the lounge, not a wide enough audience?

Re: Robin\'s right

Absolutely! Some of these carpers are parasitical in nature, they want to be informed and entertained, moan about the in crowd etc etc and start booing when the material does not meet their standards. Answer as oft has been pointed out out, is to start posting cos interesting stuff will drive out drivel. And what defines an in crowd? Frequent posters? Bit of logic here that surely does'nt need spelling out!

OK clever clogs, how else should we launch personal assaults on each other? FW Muppet.

Robin, I have never launched a personal attack on you. You have intiated several on me. I have responded because it is only fair to defend onself. I've given you the benefit of the doubt several times in the past but quite frankly your repetive childlike complaints and attacks are getting tedious. Give it a break.

I'm pleased that you're so well acquainted with the Lounge. May I congratulate you on your new registration and your comments.

Exactly the arguments put forward when the Lounge was originally suggested. The users of the forum seem to be divided between those who find threads like the 'corner' stuff (a) funny (b) boring and (c) irritating. (FWIW I'm in group b)

I was against the original split which seemed at the time to be unnecessary and the subsequent rash of self-appointed forum police ("this isn't sufficiently boaty") did no one any favours.

With luck the participants wil get as bored with the game as the rest of us and it will die. If not, Keith can always boot it all into the playpen.

Zzzzzzzzz.

As a regular old-hand on here ... some may say - too regular !! I have noted a big change ...

Previously I reckoned I read about 50% of the posts .... but that has been diminishing steadily over possibly the last 6 months or so .... now I would estimate that 90% of the posts particularly on the "boaty" forums are suspect ... and I don't read. Often a topic that appears to be worth reading - gets altered by subsequent posts and becomes a wasted effort.

There is a clique on the forums - regardless of what is said - a definite clique that I now recognise most of the members and often pass over their posts - which often really only cater to that group ....

There are some fab posts and threads - but OH how many times that thread gets beaten down by crud ... misread posts, replies that really should be elsewhere ...

Beat me with a stick - but I find half-versed innuendo posts that actually have nothing to offer other than catering for the "inside-crew" waste of YBW server space and not worthy of such a fine facility ....

So rests my case m'lord ...

If potential new registrants are anything like me they come looking to see if a forum looks like a place where they can have interesting conversations and debates, not requiring entertainment. When they see little but playground activity they go elsewhere. Like many adults, I have grown out of playground activity and would rather participate, if I participate at all, in a forum for people of a more mature outlook. Same reason I don't use the family room when I go for a drink in a pub.

In fact I registered mainly to express my sadness at seeing (after some time without internet access) what a once interesting forum has become. And its all so unnecessary. The childish refusal of the kids to use the playgound set up for them in the Lounge is the saddest and silliest thing of all.

Re: Wrong

Several points,

Once again I'm cast as the villain . Suggest you count the posts you describe as rubbish and see how many are attributable to me.

Strange how whenever Robin starts his moans a newly registested user appears and backs him up.

Strange how a user newly registered at 7:29 this morning seems au fait with the lounge and its content.

Strange how a newly registered user claiming to have had no internet access for a while seems so familiar in posting style,

Ho hum
