Kill Scuttlebutt

Re: Wrong

But if all the wingers, instead of posting complaints about the running of the forum, the childishness of posts, the relevance of threads, decided to post questions and observations about their own boating activities, then surely there would be more of 'interest' to read and reply to?
I don't like reading complaints about the forum by the very people who could enthuse it with more marine material.
As for thread drift, as often as not it's the wingers jumping into a jocular thread that's booling along quite merrily suddenly to be pulled up short by the sound of complaining.

Re: Wrong

despite my registration date I have only really started posting over the last couple of months.........so i may be part of the "new found" problem /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif........ but then again message boards have always been the same, where now gets compared unfavourably to the "good old days".

FWIW

I think the lounge is needed as it is a place for the non boating c#p - which I admit that I do sometimes like, but not always.

I have interpreted SB to be for c#ap also - but with a boat related link - maybe i am wrong here?

The PBO section is for boat questions in general - particuely the small fiddly stuff - and anything with a mast.

The MBF is for boats with only engines (and small ships!).

Finally FWIW I have found that whilst likley to get an answer here (I have learnt quite a bit since being more active) - the contributors and breadth of knowledge are not quite as numerous as I had assumed............

Whilst i would not say that this is the best managed forum I have been a member of, it comes nowwhere near the worst!

I have quite a thick skin (am insensitive?!) so i have not noticed anything that I would remotely term as flaming - even on this thread.......so just to get the ball rolling /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.........YOU ARE A BUNCH OF WHINGING F#CKING C#NTS WHO CLEARLY SPEND ALL YOUR TIME W#NKING YOURSELVES STUPID IN FRONT OF A PC RATHER THAN ACTUALLY DOING ANY F#CKING SAILING ........etc /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Strange how whenever Robin starts his moans a newly registested user appears and backs him up.

If you are suggesting that this is 'me' under a different name then you are wrong. That is one of your tricks not mine.

Strange how a user newly registered at 7:29 this morning seems au fait with the lounge and its content.

[/ QUOTE ]

As I understand it and I might be wrong but unregistered useres can READ the Lounge posts but not MAKE or reply to a post.

Once again I'm cast as the villain . Suggest you count the posts you describe as rubbish and see how many are attributable to me.

I didn't specifically mention you at all, just the number of junk posts (16 at that time) on the same theme. Of course the fact that 5 of those 16 were from you I guess might make you think it was personal, I can assure you that it wasn't, quite simply because it wasn't just you. Seeing 16 out of 30 posts on page 1 about 'corners' is IMO OTT but then I'm just a whingeing old git for bringing it up.

As for previous posting histories, they are there for all to look up and judge for themselves the rubbish to good post ratios. It's a boring weekend it might give folks something really nerdy to do.

Ho hum indeed.

oh give over, Robin ... you sound a thoroughly disgruntled person

[/ QUOTE ]

I wondered when the rest of the clan would wake up and then one pops up right on cue. I bet there have been a few PMs doing the rounds too!

I have the same right to express to an opinion as everyone else does. As has been said to me, if you don't like it then ignore it and move on. I'm sure there are lots more interesting post to read out there. Have you read the ones about 'corners' or 'fish'?

What is the point Robin

Following your post and considering it was a quiet day on the forum I started three, yes three serious boaty related topics. Two of which have resulted in quite personal attacks upon me, unprovoked I believe.

No while you winge about lack of content, have you nothing to add to any of those threads or rather stay in side aisles and giggle as I am lambasted by cobra25.

I am thinking there is no win win situation here.

In fact, is anyone going to stop the poster formally known as Cobra25. Does everyone think his response to my honest attempts to appease the wingers in here was acceptable. I believe you are choosing the wrong things to moan about!

Slinking back to silly threads only, because trying for a discussion is a waste of energy and I do not like being attacked while I stand alone.

miserable corner!

Re: Wrong

Do you know what the real joy of this forum is?......

That no one can make some one else post or not post something....

In my world, life is made up of individuals..... those that cannot manage their personal position to tolerate others input are what are generally known as drop-outs..... and can usually be found under a pier in a cardboard box somewhere or other....

What amazes me, is that people can't make a grown up decision to NOT read something.... come on... its not that hard is it?

I think this really illustrates my point

Several points,

Once again I'm cast as the villain . Suggest you count the posts you describe as rubbish and see how many are attributable to me.

Strange how a newly registered user claiming to have had no internet access for a while seems so familiar in posting style,

I have been familiar with this forum for many years. Indeed, I have been registered on it before, although not for some time. I used to enjoy it once, before it was overwhelmed with fatuous post and playground sallies like this one. In common with many posters here, I did not use the old user name when I re-registered this morning.

I have nothing whatsoever to do with Robin.

Do you behave like this in your normal life, I wonder?

Re: I think this really illustrates my point

Lintie. As I stated just before, why should any one bother trying, I did and have been subject to personal attacks. So from now on I will stick to silly threads, I quite liked my Yorkshire corner as it happens.

Can you not see now why so many avoid trying to start adult threads. Maybe, just maybe the people so bothered about content are attacking the symptom not the cause, what do you think?

Like I said, these are the last sensible threads I ever start in SB, maybe no great shakes to the majority!

I totally agree - this forum has largely degenerated into rediculous and childish posts - "fish" and "corners"??? - I ask again, what the hell are those kind of posts supposed to achieve except to feed some kind of childish need to have names appear on a regular basis and feed various egos - if some find them funny, then I appear to be completely missing the point - perhaps I'm just getting old!!. I'm not letting this get personal, but the general nature of posting on SB has, in my opinion fallen to an all time low.

I'm not an great originator of posts, but I do enjoy reading boaty threads, and do contribute my views from time to time. However, I find that I visit here less an less often, and like a previous poster, skip 90%of the posts - no doubt someone will tell me to f*** off altogether now........

As an ex raggie, now stinkie, who spends more time on the motor boat section of the forum, I sincerely hope that too, does not degenerate in the same way, or I will most definitely "f*** off" completely.

Now, where's that "ignore" button

Re: Wrong

Agreed, it's really trawling the depths at the moment.

I contribute to an aviation forum 'cos flying is another of my pastimes. Whether those who fly are just a bit more sensible and less childish I know not, but their posts are lively, informative, challenging, interesting, often opinionated and virtually always on subject. There are often heated exchanges of views, but rarely childish, and there are virtually never any personal attacks. Oh, if only we could say the same for SB these days.....

Re: Wrong

5 of the 16 ?

are you on the same forum as me?

Unregistered users are not even aware of the existence of the lounge.

Re: What is the point Robin

Woofy

Please don't stop posting boaty stuff 'cos I for one value your thoughts, even agree with most of them! Today though I got sidetracked by SWMBO as well as this post so haven't read/answered much else.

It seems someone has seen fit to move the corner posts(!) to the lounge, and Kermit has transmogified again so maybe there is hope yet.

Not the case, non-registered peeps have no access at all.

It couldn't be Troll TACO™ again? No, probably not. Not sufficiently sour.

Come on guys, it really is not worth getting involved with the kids....
if scuttle degenerates into a playground & not what it was set up for, then most of the sensible posters will leave. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I know I have almost stopped now, as the crap posts seem to be taking over...

poter.
