KAMD43\'s

Has anyone had a fan belt tensioner go on these engines? I have had three go so far (between two engines) and there about £50-60 each.

What is it about marine engines, I mean my car is 6 years old, 52k on original belts and I suppose it has a tensioner, if so its original.

I'm sure they do this on purpose

I've got 43's and 200hrs on the clock and so far only an electronic module problem with the speed sensor box. What happens with the tensioner, does it break or wear thro (I'm not sure what one looks like even). Is it an adjustable idler wheel, in which case I suspect the belt has been adjusted too tight.

Re: KAMD43\'s

Hi David theres two on each engine one for the compressor and I believe the second for the water pump etc.
Yes its an adjustable idler wheel which in itself tightens or tensions the belt, and Phil adjusts to the proscibed tension.
It sounded worn the other day you can here the bearing going, we just couldnt get one in time. So today it decided to give it up and shredded the belt in the process. Thats three in the last year or so, but about 800hrs in fairness.

Having said that I still think its a bit frequent and unnecessary/forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Not sure which version you have, but later models had an "updated" version of the mechanism (with a hex bolt sticking out, instead of the hex hole for the allen key thingy).
