Could anyone tell me what to look out for with early 80's examples of this boat as I am thinking of going to look at one.

Also, what is their ballast ratio? What do they sail like?

Many thanks

Re: Jaguar 25

I have a 1981 Jaguar 25 and from my experience you need to check the deck fitiings, as a Jaguar of that age will probably have water leaks on the majority of through deck fittings. I also found the same with the windows and had to remove them and send them away for the glass (acrylic?) to be removed and re-sealed. If it has an inboard engine check the saildrive leg seal where it passes through the hull, it can be an expensive job. It's wise to get a surveyor to check her over before making an offer as he may discover sructural problems (although I don't think the Jaguar 25 had any specific problems). You can always post this question on the Jaguar Owners Association web site - http://pages.unisonfree.net/paul.absolon/

Regards the ballast ratio I'm not sure - I know she's a relatively light displacement. It's this plus the narrow beam that make her quite fast for her size. She sails well but can get thrown about a bit in choppy seas, that said I have found ours to be a tough little boat.

To sum her up - quite quick, not too much room below due to her narrow beam, good looking boat with modern lines, quite well built but most of all excellent value for money (I looked at Centaurs also but felt the Jaguar was a more modern boat for less money).

Hope this helps
