we have a later Jaguar '24 model (Bilge Keel) and really love it. Not too big down below but we've managed a few overnights in there and hoping to do more (still quite new to sailing so haven't yet left the Menai Strait, but hoping to get out and sail around Anglesey and North Wales this season)

Just wondering, for the owners (past and present) of Firefly and other similar size Jaguar boats, noticing from mentions above Firefly was up to Scotland and down to Solway - is a boat of that size ok to take away from coastal waters (such as to Isle of Man, Ireland, Hebrides etc ?) - just as we'd love to venture out on voyages such as those once we've much more experience, but we weren't sure how far we should/could be taking the boat. It's only a petrol outboard (6hp)
I think so, personally, i did have a lot of confidence in the 23 and would have done so except covid got in the way. Going over to watch the races in the IOM was big on my bucket list, and Firefly would have done that no problem. I finally sold her after a couple of years only because i didn't have time to take sailing more seriously. It was that or paragliding (and Scouting) which stood in the way. The latter won!

Yes, she was in Portavardie, then i bought her lol. The was moved from Suffolk as per the advert above Jaguar 23 Trailer Sailer For Sale, 7.01m, 1986
I moved her down to Maryport and had her for a couple of year before selling her to a local sailor, He added a few bits and pieces such as a stack pack etc.
She was a fine boat, not the quickest in the world but would get you there quite safely, and in reasonable comfort. Here she is in Kirkcudbright!
And now I own Firefly! Only been out on Windermere since buying her last year so far as North West England isn't the best location for launching etc. She also supports write high on the trailer making self launching trickier

Anyone got any idea how easy it is to get to the keel pivot pin to inspect/replace? I haven't had a proper look yet but any info/pictures etc would be good to have

When i bought her, she had not long had the keel fully refurbished, although i don't think i had any paperwork to prove this, but the keel bolt had been encapsulated with some new fiberglass and paint.

*sits quite high on the trailer
Would be nice to see a photo of her again out on the water. Funnily enough, my first time out on her was on Windermere aswel. I just wanted to get familiar with her and learn how to step the mast and deal with the rigging etc.

Easily, just watch your forecasts. I've previously sailed a bradwell 18 to all of those places from Maryport in Cumbria where firefly is now, also with a swing keel and 5hp outboard, but much smaller at 18ft. She often did 2 and 3 week trips.

thanks ever so much Steve (and glad to hear sounds like you had some great adventures in your boat)

Hopefully we'll get the experience to start venturing further for next season. Our aim this season is to circumnavigate Anglesey (though not all in one go) - so knowing that others have done much more such as you Steve in similar size/smaller boats will give us something to begin to aim for if we hopefully have a good season and improve
