I\'ve had some remarkable luck....

On the way to take up my latest contract employ this morning, the phone rang. It was another agency offering me the same rate of pay 20 miles closer to home, thus saving me a minimum of 1.5 hours per day, and flexi hours.
This means:-
A) I am not grumpy at the time I leave for travail
B) I am not grumpy after I arrive home, at the density of the traffic
C) I am happy to be home to see Anne Robinson
D) I am very happy to be on the boat by 4pm on a Friday!
E) No need to buy another car quite as often, meaning a larger boat budget.

F) I have no need to start this week at all, so I am off to the boat to get all the jobs done.

When one can get such a nice job I almost regret being retired.

Re: I\'ve had some remarkable luck....

I am wracked with my guilt. Situation Delicate when you rang, as the 'hop' was not signed off by the Management, so I could still theoretically have been there tomorrow.

Re: I\'ve had some remarkable luck....

Why on earth are you happy to see Anne Robinson??

If there is one person I can't stand, it's her. I would rather be under the boat applying anti-fouling or even unblocking the heads than watching her on the box.

But if you're happy . . . .

Good for you.

Re: I\'ve had some remarkable luck....

If I see Anne Rob on telly, I know I have finished in time to have a life, rather than coming home to the Epilogue, which I did for years.....

Nice result,

I stopped chasing the filthy lucre when I realised I would never catch enough of it to satisfy me...ended up with a 4 on 4 off shift, and a much better life. On the other hand, my younger Brother is one of the directors of a large insurance firm, earning a six figure salary before bonus, looking at buying a +£1 million house, and he has the good grace to say sometimes he envies me because I have a boat and time to use it. (is he just trying to make me feel better?)

I have a friend who chases the mighty dollar and has a big house, 2 kids a public school and a massive wage bill.

He says that he's on a treadmill that he cant get off.

I chased the mighty dollar but decided that if I didnt stop when I did, (2004), i wouldnt have another opportunity for another 10 years or so.

Good for you! The old adage - you only know what you've got when it's 'in your hand' so to speak! Also it's no use being the richest person in the graveyard. You only live once cut loose and enjoy. Health to you all!

Re: I\'ve had some remarkable luck....

I've never had a proper job and am skint by all normal standards but have lived on my boat in the sun for the past eight months . . .

It's all relative.

Re: I\'ve had some remarkable luck....

You cant be skint, you've got a computer and money to put leccy in it!
Plus of course money to pay a phone bill and obviously moorings etc. etc.
