Logically sailboat which when sail powered would be a sailing boat and under engine a motoring boat. Sailing boat and rowing boat are common usage so why isn't motoring boat?
I suspect most of the general public would call any sailboat with a cabin a yacht.

I am happy with ‘sailing boat’ or in some contexts ‘yacht’, but never the ghastly ‘sailboat’. Although all boat used for pleasure can be called yachts, I feel a nagging disappointment when someone refers me to a supposed yacht only to find that are referring to an inverted steam iron.

If I ever am drawn to call my ‘boat’ a sailboat you have my permission to affix a sign on the heads door labelling it the ‘bathroom’.

You mean you don't call it " The rest room " ?

2003 is an age ago in language terms. The Internet had barely even got started back then, and British English still looked like it was in with half a chance of being a goer. 18 years later British English has very clearly lost the war and language both spoken and written are very different. Heck, I'm pretty sure we were still searching for things back then, rather than googling them. We may have used Google to search, of course...
