Any recommendations for schools that provide this (I think 2-day) course near west London? I'd be flying in for the weekend and staying with friends, so recommendations for Southampton, although undoubtedly well-intentioned, would not be what I am looking for. Or near Zurich.

Anyone but KTY yachts at Universal near Warsash.

Too many pupils per class, 27 in mine IIRC.
Hopeless AV equipment.
Poor swimming pool simulation, compared with another sea school I've attended.
Their main aim seemed to be selling parachute anchors.
First aid section rushed through and only any good as a refresher.
No opportunity for confidential feedback.

You pays your money........

Thanks. Noted.

I'm a bit surprised there haven't been any other responses, because I have read many posts on ybw that praise these courses - but perhaps everyone travels to the coast to take the course.

Thanks - any link to a website / telephone number / address?

I Googled but that didn't produce anything relevant. Although now I where I can buy a Cadillac Fleetwood car in Aberdeen, if that is of interest to anyone. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks again - but neither of them are in / near West London (or Zurich) and neither of them offer the ISAF Safety / Sea Survival course.

They offer the RYA Sea Survival course, which is only a part of the ISAF course.

My search continues.

ISAF is the International Sailing Federation - the governing body for the sport of sailing (racing). There are requirements for training for crewmembers for offshore races (can be found in section 6 of the Offshore Special Regulations on the ISAF website for those who are interested - I haven't posted a link as the document is 1.5 MB). The RYA course seems to be one day of the two-day ISAF course.

So I've checked on the RYA website as Vyv suggested, and the only school I have found that runs the courses in (near) London is KYT. Which so far has one vote "against".

Perhaps that's why their standards are low - no competition??

bbg, you've answered your own question. Everybody near London heads for the coast where there are numerous training establishments offering the course. Is this for the Fastnet?
