Defnitely a she. Very few boats have feminine names these days. My wife googles the name of any boat we look at. This one was risk free. We looked at an entirely different boat called ‘Betox’ once. The first link in the seach was to Urban Dictionary. OH clicked it. We didn’t buy the boat. The other boat in our harbour with a girls name shares that name with a call girl agency.

I regard boats as "She", its just the way it is. There is an exception though, Outrigger canoes or Flying Proas are traditionally regarded across the Pacific as "He", my son has just built one, I think it will stay true to its origins!

I've always referred to boats and ships as 'she'.

Recently, I advertsised a Peter Duck for a friend, who insisted that she was a he (as Peter is a boy's name, innit?). I genuinely found that very difficult eg "he has a good set of sails", "he has a reliable BMC engine". It felt stupidly, but profoundly, wrong, to me.

My boat will always be a she - whether in Scotland or not.

Her name is ghentian slang for 'the other woman' or 'bit on the side'. ?

I had a Dehler 36db in my race days called 'Pugmahone' which was a variant of the Gaelic slang for 'Kiss my arse'. Not sure whether that required a 'She' a 'He' an 'It' or something else...

Would you have bought the boat??

Probably, then immediately changed the name.
My current boat was called 'Heulwyn Ynys Mon' when I bought her/it/him which apparently was something to do with Anglesey and sunshine but that got changed immediately. Not because it was unpleasant, mainly unpronouncable for most people and I carried my boats name across from two previous boats

A boat is an it. It is neuter. In German they say "das boot". Not "der" or "die".

My logical side strongly agrees with you. The idea of 'gendering' other inanimate objects is absurd eg my laptop, my car, my house, my hammer, are most definitely all 'it'.

For some reason, however, boats and ships are 'she': probably just the habit of my lifetime use, and deeply influenced by my Dad.

Changing the name wasn’t an option. The boat was built in 1959, one owner for nearly 50 years, and the owners can see the race area from their front windows.

I bought my house nine years ago from one of our sailing club members. He was well known as a local transvestite, and hoarder. When clearing out the garages I found this. He obviously was covering all bases.

................ (as Peter is a boy's name, innit?)....................
Back in the day, I went out with a girl named "Peta", a very nice person. Anyway, my Father had neither met, or was in any way aware of me dating her, as I asked him if I could borrow his boat for the weekend, so that "Peta" and I could have some time together, neither of us having our own home.
He nearly fainted until I explained it....
A bit: A Glaswegian lad takes his girlfriend home for the first time and introduces her to his parents.
"This is Amanda."
His dad jumps up and says, "It's a f***ing what?"
