£15 for a night on a mooring... (35ft)

I truly love the place but the pips squeaked. I think I will limit myself to anchoring in Cellar Bay next time.

We were thinking of going there this weekend but didn't in the end. Was it crowded?

yes, but the HM directed us to a free mooring. Rafted up in twos and threes on each side of the visitor's pontoons. No tables inside at any of the pubs...

Still a wonderful place, but I will trust my hook next time...

Yealm

We stopped off for a night in May on the way back from Salcombe. IIRC the overnight charge was cheaper (sic) in Salcombe than it was in the Yealm, although I think the Salcombe charge had an early season discount attached to it.
Cellar Bay is definitely an option given the right weather, and you can always take the tender up the river from there if you want to use the excellent facilities :D

We were planning on an end of season trip there next weekend or the one after but, beautiful though the Yealm is, I think I'd be just as happy dropping the hook in Barn Pool, Cawsand or Cellar Bay.

Yes, I'm afraid it gets horrendously crowded and it's no cheaper than Salcombe. There are only a couple of places where a 40'+ boat can moor.

I have seen the HM heading off to Cellar bay - anyone know if they charge for anchoring inside the bar?

R Yealm prices are bearable but not off the scale!

I think he's going to check on the single visitor's buoy just inside the river from Cellar bay - this is for 'bigger' boats I seem to remember. I don't think they can charge for anchoring at Cellar Bay.

The visitor's buoys are our favourites as the pontoons collect all the day trippers from Plymouth and the 'learners' attempting down tide, down wind approaches!

(Last time we were there 5 RN types on a loan boat had 5 goes at arriving until I finally lost my nerve and suggested he come in the other way - came in first go!)

That's the buoy I was parked on when I saw him go past, hence the question. There's never room for me on the inner buoys and they charge time-and-a-half on the pontoons.

I once went to the HM's pontoon for water. I managed not to hit anyone but I was bricking it!

Ditto!

Hahahahahahaha.

Not so smug now eh???? Bleeding mutlihulls. get a proper boat, and you will need less space than a Nimitz class carrier to park/ turn in.

Anyways, i have watched Snowy turn around opp the HM pontton in the yealm... and I was sadly dissapointed at the lack of any crumpled GRP in the process.

Sounds Ok for the West Country. Fowey is similar for even less facilities, ditto Helford, Cattewater Plymouth etc.
BTW, I paid 19e in both L'Abrwrach and Treguier this year.
I too have seen the Harbourmaster doing a tour of Cellar Bay....I understand it is within the Harbour and they could charge if they had a mind....

Probably checking no-one has moored to the bar buoy (or perhaps counting how many boats have anchored on the eelgrass)
