Is t the statment that the volvo penta d3 diesel 190 hp a ''disposable engine '' fair

I don't know for sure, that was before I bought the boat and I only saw it in the service history.
From the various papers, it seems the Vodia tool showed something related to flow rates.
 
I realize this thread is old but as Volvo has discontinued the D3 and its D5 - My d3 has under 900 hours and has never been a problem - I tend to run it hard - 80% all the time an 100% until it reaches 193 F then back to 80%

i do all required maintenance- but have been told a twin cam variable valve diesel is not a wise choice for marine use due to Complexity -

it hours or time with maintenance- these engines have timing belts, volvo says 8 years on d3 - belts may fail but it’s the tensioner in a salt water environment that fails - causing the belt to jump- these are interference engines an you end up with a valve in a piston and $$

what I’m interested in is how many components are carried over from D5’S that could be used ?
