Boat has been in the water about eight months from new.
Two months ago had it lifted out and pressure washed. Needed new anodes at that point!!
In the past two months it has had six weeks in Brighton and two weeks in Gosport and done forty engine hours.
Now the growth on the hull particularly around the waterline is amazing. 4/5 cm of wispy green weedy type stuff. In two months!! and the boat has been used!!
So is it that this year is bad in general, Brighton is bad, the antifoul is past its sell by or maybe the original antifoul was crap anyway.
To be fair everyone says Brighton is bad in this respect but that sort of build up in that time seems a lot. Anyone else see this? especially anyone in Brighton?

Same in Porthmadog! I thought it was just an isolated problem. My props which didn't seem to need any anti-foul last year had grown huge green beards of weed and 20-30 barnacles. It took me an hour in the water with a plastic pan-scouring pad to get them spotless again - and thereby hangs the tail, the water was very warm which is unusual for mid-June!! The hull was clean as I had given it two good coats of Trilux before she went in. But, as you have found, where the water laps over the top of the anti-foul, there was the strings of green slime weed again. It looked awful, so I cleaned all those off also. Next time it's out I will do the props and raise the height of the anti-foul by an inch or two.

Me too. SON VIDA is only in her mooring (Malahide, Dublin) since 1st May and the legs and trim tabs have long wispy weeds already. It's nothing to do with lying idle as she has done 40hours. Last time out was two weeks ago which included a blast at 36knots for 15minutes or so. I am going to lift this week for a sling wash. Hope I don't have to repeat EVERY six weeks. Wonder if it has something to do with a rise in sea temp as I have also noticed a lot of Lions Mane Jellyfish in and around the marina.

Have noticed it has grown quicker this year, especially round the prop and stern drive - and that's going down every weekend so far and taking her out over 30knts. Hull is pretty good as raised antifoul line this year. Anodes are wearing quicker this year too. And am based in Brighton.

Dave,

I might be wrong on this, but I thought the general advice was NOT to antifould props....we have certainly never antifouled ours on previous boats (current ones are stanless, so antifouling those is a definite no-no).

Also I think it's perceived to be prudent to have the antifouling 2-3 inches above the waterline. Even so, ours still gets the most growth around the waterline as this is the bit that gets the most sunlight. There is no reat solution other than a good scrub.

Did you also leave a gap between the antifoul and the outdrive surround on the hull?

Have to say heva not noticed massive growth on ours, but it was only done in mid May, so pretty late. However, for the past season or so she has beeen eating anodes - two sets per season, when previously we only needed one.

Right, I have to go order a dinghy seat to replace the one my fat ass broke.
